Mawhitipana

The owners' brief for this holiday home was simple; maximize the sun, the views and the outdoor living. They wanted large outdoor living areas to spend their time relaxing outside, not inside. Simon Wilson Simon Wilson Simon Wilson The house is a simple response to this brief; providing a delicate intervention into the landscape with a small footprint, to allow the owners to connect with the surrounding landscape without dominating it, whilst blurring the line between inside and outside. Simon Wilson Simon Wilson Simon Wilson The steep, elevated site provides sweeping views over Mawhitipana Bay below and is covered in mature protected Pōhutukawa trees which form a large dominant green canopy. Chapel Saint John Paul II. Almudena Cathedral

The new chapel dedicated to Saint John Paul II has been designed as a cedar wooden shell,  which reveals the original stone. Álvaro Viera Cedrela odorata, the main material, fills the space with its texture and color, as a reference to the pontiff´s love for Nature. Álvaro Viera Fifty porticos with different geometries and heights rise to 13m, the height of the chapel.  They are made of 150x50mm pieces and placed rhythmically with a separation of 10mm on a base that raises them from the floor creating a subtle line of shadow. Four of the porticos has been machined to embed led strips, that create different light scenes inside. Álvaro Viera The pieces of wood are joined with a reinterpre... More

The Pool

A private indoor pool house with gym, sauna, and changing facilities. The minimalist, restrained architectural design of the pool building ties into the more traditional forms of the existing residence using light concrete to mimic the tones of the houses’ schist stone cladding. Thomas Seear-Budd Thomas Seear-Budd Vaughan Brookfield Vaughan Brookfield The light external palette is contrasted with the selection of dark bluestone tiling for the floor and walls and cedar ceilings to create a rich, moody internal palette that brings a residential feeling into what is typically a commercial environment. High above the town of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, this long and low house by McLean Quinlan and Berlin Architects has an organic quality that takes inspiration from the client’s love of wide-open beach houses of New Zealand and the chalets of Switzerland. Further inspiration comes from the J.P. Cunningham Cabin, an 1880’s ranch house in Grand Teton National Park. Credit: David Agnello The design features a central living space bordered by expansive sliding glass doors that open to a large wooden terrace. Credit: Peter Cook The open-plan seating and dining areas flow into a kitchen, which turns leads to an intimate breakfast nook with framed vistas. Lagoon House

This 2,100 square-foot weekend residence was built in Seadrift on the Stinson Lagoon in Marin County, California. Although the lagoon is filled with Pacific Ocean Sea water, it is shallow and warm – much like a lake and so used for swimming, paddling, and many other non-motorized water sports. While beach houses are often tattered and somewhat quirky, this one is meant to be modern and refined, yet casual. It was created for a family of five that live in San Francisco who surf, cook, craft, and party. The design process was very collaborative and enjoyable. Marin County coastal codes require houses in this zone to be notably elevated above the sea level, which results in houses being quite high in relation to the lagoon and ocean.... Day Wines

Located in Dundee, Oregon in the heart of Oregon Wine Country, this 12,000 sf former vitamin factory off Hwy 99 was transformed into a state of the art communal natural winemaking facility and tasting room for Day Wines and 10 other winemakers. The design of the architecture and landscape and the materials selected are a reflection of the owner and natural winemaker, Brianne Day. Moving from the gravel parking lot to the winery, a covered loggia and vertical cedar screen, whose design is based on an unfolded wine barrel, enclose a courtyard and create a serene gathering space. The linearity of the architecture and landscape were inspired by vineyard planting, and carry from the courtyard into the cedar clad tasting room. An organically shap... More

House near Mielec

The house was designed in Zlotniki - a picturesque area near Mielec, southern Poland. The traditional architecture of single-family houses as well as meadows and arable fields famous for fertile soils have become a natural background for the project. Functional and spatial layout of rooms in the house is the result of design decisions relating to the world sides, advantages and drawbacks of the plot and joint arrangements with future residents. The set layout was accentuated by the diversity of the building's solids. The rectangular shape on the ground floor is dedicated to daytime, recreational and technical functions. The second element is a block with a truncated gable roof placed on a rectangular prism like a separate element - a sma... More
