KSM Architecture creates climate sensitive design for Chennai-based learning community
Chennai-based KSM Architecture has completed the “Learning Community at Quest”, a place for children aged 8 to 16 years old that nurtures interest-based activities, self-directed learning, and an “unschooling” approach to education. Located close to the seafront in the Besant Nagar neighborhood of Chennai, India, the learning community’s colorful design comprises a collection of free-flowing interior volumes that provide a sense of space and visual connectivity. The building’s design places a clear focus on addressing Chennai’s warm climate.

Located along the East Coast Road by the sea side, the beach house functions as a haven from the bustle of city life.The building explores the notion of objects in a landscape. A strong sense of landscape prevails both within and outside the house. “To bring out and make apparent the invisible logic of nature, one must oppose it with the logic of architecture”. Jashn (Corporate HQ Building)
Jashn, a hindi/urdu word for 'celebration' describes the mood of the project. The five story, 30,000 sf. building is designed to house the head-quarters of an established real-estate developer in the city of Chennai. The building will house marketing and executive offices and in essence become the home for the developers' management group
Merge Studio was asked to develop a design that would demonstrate the design and construction capabilities of the clients and become the new home that the occupants can be proud of. Nestled in the heart of Chennai and at a corner of narrow tree-lined streets, our studio designed the shimmering 'jewel box' (as we like to call it) and clad it in shades of white transparency.
