10 Design | Wide Horizon Clubhouse

Inspired by the natural mountains and lush topography of the immediate Chongqing context, the building sits proudly on the top of a hill like a sculpture with its lower levels cascading down the hillside.  Barry Shapiro, Asia Managing Partner, comments: “We are delighted to see that our design for the Wide Horizon Clubhouse has come to fruition. The new clubhouse has become not only a new symbol of a wider development but also a new icon in Chongqing. Its strong, dynamic forms and materials have helped to make the building an object of art itself, in addition to the exhibitions within. “ The clubhouse, a circa 9,000sqm building spread across 5 floors, is located on a steeply sloped hillside adjacent to the main entrance... Chongqing Huayu City

The Huayu Center is planned as a Commercial and Residential complex in the city’s Shapingba area. The planning and design strategy targeted on clarity of pedestrian connectivity, scale and an eclectic architectural vocabulary to create a destination within the city that would be global in its varied components and regional in its detail. The five-level mall allows for grade level entrances on each floor taking advantage of the site’s terrain while a series of outdoor streets and cascading steps connect the retail lifestyle component in a quintessentially Chongqing style. The 200m hotel & branded apartment tower defines an elegantly sculpted profile capped by an exclusive club and observation deck. More

iFree Cinema Chongqing

Housed within a retail complex at the heart of Chongqing’s shopping district, iFree is the new brand of Dadi Cinemas. CLOU’s response is a playful one, celebrating the history of filmmaking as well as satisfying people’s anticipation of visiting movie theatres. The interiors draw reference from classic movie theatres in history and the stop motion frames of early cinematography. With its clean lines, robust fair-faced concrete and metal mesh ceilings, the use of red velvet, and the larger-than-life suspended lamp cones, the cinema reminds one of the grand theatres remodelled with a young and urban take. A contemporary and thoughtful demonstration of iFree’s new brand identity is also designed by CLOU. More

The LOOP

Designed by LWK + PARTNERS, The LOOP is the sales gallery for Shun Shan Fu, a low-density residential development composed of various luxurious villas and houses. Conceived as a brilliant gem hovering on top of the magnificent landscape of Zhaomu Mountain, the gallery represents power and style but with a softer side that embraces the shapes of nature.   The LOOP features two showrooms linked by a crescent-shaped glass-bottomed bridge named The Skywalk, which is aesthetically pleasing and pragmatic in function. With the use of full steel frame structure and an onion-ring-like cladding system, the undulating forms of The LOOP echo and integrate with the dynamic contours of the site, while The Skywalk grants visitors an unobstructed vie... Chongqing Jiangshan Yun Chu – Legend Gallery

As a lifestyle gallery, Chongqing Jiangshan Yun Chu – Legend Gallery in China is a trial for and response to localised architecture by LWK + PARTNERS. It explores the spatial interaction between nature and urban space on a site close to Chongqing’s Jialing River bank, where the waterscape forms a rare natural setting for the urban area.Riverbends by the cliff is a symbolic setting in Chongqing. Sitting on a triangular site at the highest point of the cliff, the gallery allows visitors a full view of the riverbend and a bird’s eye view of the future Yue Lai core transit-oriented development (TOD) district.Initial concepts from the early design stages all seemed rather out of place in the natural environment in spite of multiple scenario-base... Chongqing Vanke Forest Park

Scenery is beauty; nature is grandeur. Abandon screams and self-expression, and embrace silence and tranquillity… ‘Retreat’ is a design attitude.   Sitting next to the third largest public urban park in the world, Chongqing Vanke Forest Park Sales Gallery is a retreat between the city and nature. Designed by LWK + PARTNERS, the gallery is a magical house hidden in nature, and a wood cabin among fir trees. At its initial opening, the building is the sales gallery of the residential project, but it will turn into a kindergarten for the community in the future.   In terms of design, the architecture satisfies both the initial commercial sales function and the later educational function, as well as portrays the...
