An architectural gesture that listens to the past to give voice to the present.
Casa 57 emerges with the intention of recovering the essence of an abandoned colonial house in Mérida’s historic center and allowing the old and the new to meet.
The project began with the certainty that history had to be the starting point.
The original structure, with its double height ceilings and its hidden arch that once connected to the patio, was freed to restore its character. That arch became the conceptual and physical axis, functioning as an invisible line that guides the journey and connects memory with contemporary life.

Casa Kati Kaan
Kati Kaan is an off-the grid, self-sustainable beach house located at the National Biosphere Reserve of Sian Kaan in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo at the east of the Yucatan Peninsula. As an aisled location, it has to save, recycle as much as possible of water and to generate and store power from both, solar and wind generators. As part of the strict regulations for this site, the footprint of the house is limited to a tight land surface of the 100-meter beach-front plot, as up to 200 sq meters of construction and 8 meters above the highest dune are allowed.

Located in the northern part of Mérida (Mexico), The School of Business and Banking (EBC) by Ignacio Urquiza Arquitectos (IUA) is part of a new campus providing educational services to a growing area of the city.

Clad with chukum stucco, a traditional local material, the solid and weighty building takes into account three specific factors: the local climate, the program, and the specifics of the site.
The local climate is characterized by heat, humidity, and high temperatures under direct sun. In response, the south, east and west walls are primarily closed and solid, while the northern elevation remains mainly open to provide a consistent natural light source.
