There's space here to sit down, pop up a laptop, have a coffee and to collaborate. InsideOut have just completed the fourth in a series of loft refurbishments at a converted warehouse in Clerkenwell. This project focussed on lighting redesign to highlight the varied and tactile finishes throughout and acoustic performance, as both clients are musicians. The lighting was designed for maximum flexibility in an ever changing open plan space. The bespoke suspended cable trays allowed the removal of all messy surface fixed services, while future proofing for additional services should the need arise. This system seems to float in the space, with hidden connections at the dropped concrete beams and up-lit concrete coffers that help celebrate the structure of the building. To celebrate Clerkenwell Design Week Havwoods commissioned Liqui to create a variety of eye-catching visual merchandising installations for their Clerkenwell showroom at 26-27 Great Sutton Street. The displays showcase a variety of Cork products from Havwoods new range of Cork wall cladding to offer showroom visitors a unique brand experience. The idea of the window piece is to draw people to the shop while still allowing them to see into the interior. Liqui took simple flat Cork wall tiles and gave them a 3-dimensional twist by creating a hanging structure that takes the form of asymmetrical drapes or curtains. An intelligent refurbishment and extension in Clerkenwell A sensitive refurbishment of a typical nineteenth-century Clerkenwell building within the Clerkenwell Green Conservation area.The building was given a new lease of life with a fresh interior aesthetic, new corner entrance and new services throughout.   Personality was achieved by animating the building at street level with the introduction of two floors of interconnected retail space, with all new shop-style glazing. From the seventh floor of an apartment building in Clerkenwell, EC1 Penthouse looks out across the City of London enjoying stunning views of St Paul's Cathedral and the Barbican Centre. Maximising these views was a key aspect of the client’s brief, as were enhancing energy performance and introducing a material palette to amplify the feeling of light and space in the apartment. Following intense negotiations with the freeholder, consent was won for a licence to alter which allowed us to significantly open up the layout of the apartment and create an airy living space. Outgrowing their existing office in Madrid, Juniper Networks came to Platform with the brief to create a more social, customer- centric space.The thinking was to define the space much more akin to the thinking in a hospitality project so, unlike a traditional office, it was designed to have a “Front of house and Back of house” separation of the space.Many of the client conversations were of an informal nature so Platform designed a space that would enable these conversations to take place. Their unique platform combines business and individual searches for the UK and international markets, with verification checks taking no more than 30 seconds.After a period of rapid expansion, they had outgrown their Guiseley office. John Robertson Architects (JRA) has revitalised an existing office building in the City of London with a prominent new entrance hall and retail podium. Briefed by client Ocubis with creating “Clerkenwell meets the City”, Cannon Green provides a contemporary workplace environment complete with hot-desking and co-working spaces, as well as bike storage, showers and a cycle workshop.The site comprised two orthogonal office towers – constructed in 1966 and refurbished in 1981 – separated at ground level. 1 Hardwick street involves the comprehensive refurbishment and extension of a former warehouse building in Clerkenwell, London.    Works to the ground floor include the repositioning of the main entrance door to improve its prominence. The refurbished reception features a new passenger lift, polished concrete floor, bespoke feature lighting, and a bespoke brass directory.   Washroom areas are brought up to modern standards with superloo WCs and shower facilities. FUTURE Designs has created a bespoke lighting scheme for the interior of Bisley’s new showroom in the heart of Clerkenwell – the home of the UK’s design community. The stunning new space is multi-functional, used as an office, showroom and event space and an important chapter in the evolution of Bisley, showcasing its ability to provide a complete furniture solution for the contemporary workplace. The brief began with a requirement for a loose fit building able to accommodate apartments and offices/studios across column free floors. Enough time was available to investigate context and a number of possible solutions for a replacement building that would sit within the all but vanished boundaries of an C11th limestone Norman abbey. One able to integrate, extract and perhaps make new a broader and better sense of context than that now dominated by late C20th pastiche.Originally built by Baron Jordan Briset, the abbey was expanded and remodelled until its C16th dissolution precipitated a gradual erosion through subdivision and conversion into grand houses for the newly protestant barons. Studio Octopi were appointed in June 2015 following an invited design competition. In December 2015 the team completed the 4,300 sqm CAT B fit-out for immediate occupation. Five floors of the C-Space building now comprise all the MullenLowe Group agencies including advertising agency MullenLowe London, activation agency MullenLowe Open, digital agency MullenLowe Profero and the Group’s global headquarters. After a consultation with the staff, Studio Octopi presented an overarching concept that integrated the three agencies as the ‘City of MullenLowe’ with the unifying motto ‘non mihi, non libi, sec nobis’ or ‘not for you, not for me, but for us.’ The consultation highlighted a desire for each agency to maintain a level of individuality... Turnmill sits on a prominent corner site in London's Clerkenwell Green Conservation Area. In respect to the site's unique setting, Piercy&Company focused on sympathetic materials, a strong two-part form, and carefully crafted details. A curved plan form is a direct response to the movement of people around the site, which is set to intensify as Farringdon Crossrail station opens in 2018. Handmade Roman format Petersen Tegl Kolumba bricks create a horizontal rhythm across the façade and reflect the sturdy masonry characteristics of Clerkenwell's warehouses.
