Lofty timber canopy welcomes commuters at new Brent Cross West station
The eastern entrance of newly opened Brent Cross West station in North London is an impressive timber-hybrid structure that combines sustainability and biophilia. “The Arbour” is a gateway to Brent Cross Town, a large-scale urban regeneration project that aims to be net zero by 2030. The Arbour station entrance was co-authored by Studio Egret West and shedkm with Studio Egret West evolving the design through its detail and construction phases. A lofty timber canopy was developed to fit between and connect two adjacent future office buildings. (Studio Egret West and shedkm are the architects for office building 4 and office building 3 respectively — both designs will incorporate timber construction technologies.)

Lumber bygg 4
"Lumber 4" is a commercial and office building spanning six floors. A recessed ground floor constitutes the commercial level, with the five floors above dedicated to office spaces.
The structure is composed of a masstimber construction with columns and beams made of glued laminated timber.
The floors are constructed using a composite structure of CLT and concrete, creating a slim and efficient floor system that spans long distances while also addressing fire and acoustic requirements.
Diagonals on the ground floor facilitate better vehicular access around the building. The existing communication core from adjacent building phases contributes to lateral stability and access to the office floors.

A striking wooden house
Near the South Holland dunes a special house has been realized, which consists of a visible structure of laminated wooden columns, beams and floors. This structure is filled in with an open or closed filling; open with sun and view oriented sliding doors, closed with vertical larch parts. The wooden construction is visible inside and out, so that the rhythm of the structure can be felt throughout the house. All this according to a size ratio that has been worked out in detail, so that special and warm spaces have been created for the clients both inside and outside.

The Eagle Mountain Top Restaurant derives its rock-like form from the Austrian landscape
Located at 2000m above sea level in Sankt Lorenzen Austria, the Eagle Mountain Top Restaurant by Viereck Architects is designed as a crystalline or rock-like form with the shape of the façade derived from the orientation and view from the site itself. Main elevations offer the most spectacular views into the landscape, with clear heights being close to six meters.

Large visible CLT beams define the restaurant space along with CLT ceiling slabs. The CLT beams are organized into a star formation, adding a dramatic ceiling feature. Triangular areas between beams are filled with perforated acoustic panels in timber, with ventilation and electrical systems concealed behind. Slender CLT columns lean inwards in two dire... More
