The Thinkroom

The Thinkroom is conceived as a collaborative workplace combined with a library — a rare typology in Gurugram, where fast-paced work culture rarely leaves space for quiet reading and reflection. The idea was to create a workplace that balances focus and collaboration, while also offering a haven for people who enjoy reading and learning within a shared environment. Arkodeb Mukherjee Arkodeb Mukherjee Arkodeb Mukherjee Arkodeb Mukherjee The design draws inspiration from the idea of a “Neher” (river) — and the calm rhythm you experience when sitting beside flowing water with a book. Translating this into the space, a continuous blue flooring element flows through the interior, guiding movement whi... More

Vollebak Spaceshop

For SAGA Space Architects, designing for extreme environments is an everyday task. The studio has spent years exploring how architecture can adapt to the extreme environments while still closely working with projects on Earth. The latest project, however, has ventured into retail. Caption Caption Vollebak Spaceshop, designed and built by SAGA, is a 1,000-kilogram spacecraft-inspired pop-up that reimagines the idea of a shopping experience. Created in collaboration with Vollebak, the experimental clothing brand known for garments inspired by space and survival, and Bang & Olufsen, Denmark’s century-old luxury audio brand, the Spaceshop merges engineering, design, and architecture into a single mobile structure. K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Library

The libraries of the Future; A Management school library reimagined. Traditional libraries are seeing a shift in paradigm globally. The book collection or storage-based libraries are changing to a more user centric model which are powered by a large variety of digital services. This phenomenon has allowed for a tectonic shift in the organisation and spatial configuration of the classical Library. The libraries of tomorrow aspire to offer knowledge to a fast-developing E-society where the library is not only a space for learning but also a place for meeting.  MO-OF / Mobile Offices The image of the Future library is no more a sacred ‘Temple of silence’ or a strong ‘Fortress for books’. It can be perceived... More

The Trilix Bamboo Pavilion

The Trilix Bamboo Pavilion is an innovative, eco-friendly structure designed to showcase the versatility and sustainability of bamboo as a building material. Crafted primarily from rapidly renewable European bamboo, the Trilix serves as a shining example of carbon negative architecture.   First built in April 2024 at the NEB Festival in Brussels, Belgium, the pavilion formed a striking contrast with the surrounding neo classical musea. The Dutch Design Week followed in October, where the bamboo pavilion enhanced Strijp-S, through its natural appearance. The pavilion stayed at this old factory square, to be enjoyed daily at the terraces of the local restaurants.  RedPixl Studio Akeka Max Kneefel   Enhancing... More

De Kroon: Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Apartments

De Kroon is a unique gas-free apartment complex, designed in close collaboration between 1:1 Architectuur and H2W Architecten. This striking building, located on the outskirts of the Oranjewijk, is the result of bold ideas and a successful partnership between the two locally renowned architectural firms. The creation of De Kroon is based on a deep analysis of user groups and the context of the location. Thanks to the courage of the client A.C.U. Bouw, we were given the freedom to conceive something special. The building is situated along the green veins of the Oranjewijk, and this aspect is integrated into the design with cantilevered balconies, allowing residents to fully enjoy the view and sunlight. 1:1 Architectuur 1:1 Architectu... State Archives

The volume for the State Archives, located in the city center, is meticulously matched to the scale of the surrounding buildings. The sturdy corner building respects the pattern of the street onto which it fronts, while the long horizontal volume behind adheres to the cornice height of the surrounding streets and alleys. At the end of the horizontal wing, the facade is set back from the plot boundary. This makes space available for a small public square in the midst of this dense 19th-century urban setting and extends a welcoming hand to passersby.  Filip Dujardin The public parts of the building face this more intimate urban space. The glass façade welcomes visitors and leads them to the building behind, where both the ad... More

Whitechapel Gallery

In the best museums and galleries one finds one's way through a series of rooms, where the artefacts are carefully lit and set off by calm backgrounds. A degree of repetition helps navigation, some variation helps orientation. Filip Dujardin The proposals for the Whitechapel Art Gallery are bold in their restraint (someone commented: 'where’s the architecture?') and seize a simple but powerful opportunity: lower and upper floors are configured as circuits of rooms, with the stylistically different but volumetrically similar existing galleries linked up by smaller, more domestically scaled gallery spaces. The subtle rhythms and contrasts of the rooms form the backdrop to the wide variety of work on display (historic and contempor... More

Boekentoren - University Library

The conservation project for the Book Tower aims at restoring the historical site of the University Library, situated in the lively quartier Latin of Ghent, meanwhile at transforming it into a library for the 21st Century. The design unites the ambitions of the University to respectfully repair the monumental site to its original condition, but also to render it a contemporary house for a great diversity of users and for the valuable own collection of the institute. Kristien Daem The Ghent University Library is internationally renowned for its ‘heritage collection’ of manuscripts, books, coins, curiosa, newspapers and magazines. The study into the conservation project revealed that the conservation of these precious object... More

ZNA Cadix Hospital

Situated at the head of Spoor Noord, the hospital is a hinge between the park, the docks and the city, and thus benefits from each of their qualities. The limited surface area of the site requires the hospital to be organised vertically. The hospital structure has a clearly discernible layered construction. All outpatient activities with consultation rooms, centres of knowledge and medical technical services are in the lowest section. The various nursing units are located in an L-shape at the top of the pedestal, above which is the administrative block. This entirety is bisected horizontally several times by interweaving the building with its surroundings. The hospital anchors itself in the urban fabric by releasing the entire ground floor... More

Art Forms

A heritage Victorian terrace house at Fitzroy gets a renovation in collaboration with an Artist Client. Tatjana Plitt An Architect-turned-sculptor Client, and an Architect with a penchant for art, approach the renovation of a Victorian terrace house in the heart of Fitzroy as artists might approach their work.  Together they have wrapped, carved out,  inserted, framed, coloured, decorated  and lit the project as an artist might. Tatjana Plitt Our clients' family house was lovely, but rundown, its center was dark and awkward, the living area too small, the main bedroom had no En suite and there was the usual lack of storage. The Artist Owner came to us with moody grayscale 3D models that expressed some strong conce... More

Narre Warren North Mosque

The Narre Warren North Mosque will provide a place of worship and assembly for the local Muslim community set within an expansive valley setting. A site-responsive approach integrates built form with the natural surrounds, while offering new prayer hall mosque, ancillary building, pedestrian walks and car parking. The development comprises two co-located buildings that work cohesively by juxtaposing height and scale. The form draws upon the site topography and orientation of Mecca. Caption The materiality of the building is sympathetic to its location and context. The external walls are dark concrete paired with landscape berms that immerse the building into the natural landscape. The roof material is dark and recessive to further g... More
