St Andrew’s Hall in Parkville is home to a training facility for the Church Missionary Society of Australia (CMS). The Learning Centre and Accommodation Redevelopment project comprises a complete restoration of the original 19th century house and new student accommodation and teaching building. Responding to the ornate fretwork and detail of St Andrew’s Hall, the development is wrapped in a geometric patterned metalwork screen. This serves as solar control to the northern and western facades, and manages privacy to the development’s northern neighbours. Demolish or renovate? This question often arises when it comes to the further development of school buildings from the 1970s. The senior high school Lycée Evariste Galois in the Paris metropolitan area no longer meets current requirements and is bursting at the seams due to strong demographic development. With a holistic environmental approach in mind, we decided together with our partner Panorama Architecture from Aix en Provence to restructure and expand. LOM`s 540sqm fit out allowed Point Blank Music School to expand its teaching facilities with seven teaching studios, live room, lounge, kitchen and office. These spaces are organised around a central student hub, a busy, vibrant and flexible space at the heart of the premises for students to hang out, work, share ideas and perform in. Two of the teaching studios include full mixing desks which open onto a shared live room to allow students to learn about the recording process and studio techniques. Collège Montmorency is the only college in the city of Laval, just north of Montreal. As it has nearly 8000 students and continues to grow, in 2018 Collège Montmorency began construction of a new D wing. The initial plan for a 2,600 square meter annex was quickly expanded to a 10,865 square meter, four story pavilion with a 26 million CAD budget. The new pavilion, named Guy-Rocher, opened its doors in the winter of 2019 and represents the college’s largest investment since its construction in 1976. With Limited capacities, a new private entrepreneurial higher professional school is realised in the forma industrial district of Amsterdam Noord. Opened in 2017 and doubled in students in 2018. Both designs, the first floor in the first year and ground floor after the expansion are done by OFMAA. The rough materialisation breathes the industrial history of thebuilding and surrounding and represents the entrepreneurship of de industrialarea. To design addition to an already existing object is always a challenging task, above all considering newly established relations and autonomy of annex building. Moreover, with financial limitations imposed by a society in transition, which favors a “quick” design and “cheap” construction, realization of respectable building becomes a demanding task for every architect. JGMA’s design strategy for the Daley College - Manufacturing, Technology and Engineering Center (MTEC) utilizes building transparency to showcase machines, equipment, and products integral to the learning objectives of the colleges as well as provide a visual connection to the surrounding West Lawn community. The seamless fluidity to the building’s form was inspired by the constant and linear flow of the manufacturing process. The building is clad in perforated and solid Cor-ten panels and utilised off-site manufacture to meet programme, budget, and sustainability requirements. The new built-for-purpose Maths facility replaced a deteriorating temporary structure, providing eight new flexible classrooms, staff offices and WC facilities within a new 775sqm single storey building. Arentheem College Situated on the valuable and fragile south-west corner of Park Presikhaaf, the new campus complex for Arentheem College forms a unity with the green landscape. Here, three schools are connected by a second surface level whilst retaining their own identity. This is achieved in a single building were student flows of the different tenants can be kept separate.
