The roof forms serve functions on the exterior. They overhang to provide shade during the warmer months and then create a really unique transition from the single story portion of the home to the second story. Plus, they take form in the great room with a curved ceiling form above that transitions up to the second floor, creating a timeless architectural element.

Canvas House explores the resonant form of brick with an innovative undulating facade
In the Forest Hill neighbourhood of Toronto, Canvas House by Partisans features a sinuous façade that embodies the revered pieces of art the home contains. The monochromatic, undulating brick façade stands out amidst the surrounding context of Georgian homes, with their conventional and symmetrical geometries.

Chicago home flips conventional arrangements upside down
On a traditional Chicago lot that borders an alleyway, this house flips known conventional arrangements upside down by locating bedroom and private uses on the ground level, and communal/living spaces upstairs. The architect, Kwong Von Glinow, explains the inversion is a response to contemporary desires for optimal amounts of natural light and visual contact with one’s surrounding environment.
