Fluidity of interior spaces towards the exterior The owners aimed to enlarge their home while maximizing their outdoor space usage throughout the year. The project, as designed, creates a seamless and natural transition between the interior and exterior. To achieve this, the architects initially incorporated an exposed wooden structure that stretches into a covered outdoor space. The kitchen and dining room are located in the basement of a Georgian house. Persistent dampness and a lack of natural light led to the recommendation of terrazzo flooring with a light-gray composition featuring white marble. The entire color palette was chosen in warm tones, complemented by open timber furniture structures. The clients expressed interest in refurbishing their dining set and purchasing shelves for the niches. The client had some very stringent demands that allowed the CAS design team very limited amount of freedom with the overall design. The client’s brief dictated most of the color and material palate – which was basically a mix of luxurious neo-classical style articulated in gold and wooden features.
