Douglas fir flooring

Our old-growth Douglas fir comes in very long and wide planks. In our favourite finish, we bleach and oil each board by hand, giving the wood its light and smooth Scandinavian touch. The wood can be soaped and reoiled again and again to feed and protect the surface patina for a long time to come. This finish works best in randomly blended very wide and very long boards for floors or walls. More

Hovering above the ground plane, the Book House in the Zheijiang Province of China offers a serene reading space in an ancient mountain community. With scattered buildings at different altitudes, and dense trees against the mountain skyline, the village maintains the features and feel of the area’s ancient roots. Completed by Shulin Architectural Design, the Book House sits not far from the square at the village entrance, beside a well-preserved courtyard of rammed earth. At Old Wood, we take pride in the fact that we have been working with wood for generations. Wide plank floors have been in use for centuries, and have stood as a timeless classic in a number of different architectural styles. Generally, wide plank floors are known as anything over 6-8 inches; we have taken it to the next level, and routinely create floors with widths of 13"-24". The recent large forest fires across the United States have given us a unique opportunity to salvage large, old trees to be turned into beautiful very wide plank floors. Our materials are well-sourced from sound forest management efforts, and largely come from fire-reclaimed and NEPA sourced timber. More
