Tree Courtyard House by ao–ft brings contemporary flair to small backland site
In Walthamstow, East London, a single-story new-build home brings contemporary flair to a small backland site. Designed by London-based architecture practice ao–ft, “Tree Courtyard House” is constructed from brick and cross-laminated timber (CLT). The home’s L-shaped plan is guided by the site’s mature London Plane tree and root system.

Eden Dock offers green oasis in heart of London’s Canary Wharf
A green oasis has been unveiled in the heart of London’s Canary Wharf: Eden Dock is a buoyant new public space where floating, interconnected pontoons and aquatic islands create opportunities for people to connect with nature in the city. Eden Dock was designed by architectural studio Howells with landscape design by HTA Design. Championing biodiversity, the project for Canary Wharf Group (owner and developer) is in partnership with celebrated educational charity the Eden Project (Canary Wharf is now Eden’s London-based home).

Allies and Morrison conceives new London College of Fashion home as a 21st century factory atelier
London-based architectural practice Allies and Morrison has completed a new home for the London College of Fashion (part of UAL — University of the Arts London). Located in the city’s East Bank cultural quarter, the college is conceived as a 21st century factory atelier.

Trellik Design Studio transforms an East End Victorian building into a creative community space
London-based architectural practice Trellik Design Studio has transformed a one-time photography agency office into a bright and bijou mixed-use space. Located in De Beauvoir Town, a neighborhood in east London, the practice reconfigured the building as a co-working studio, maker’s workshop, and cafe, open to the East End's creative community. Franco-British architect Jean Dumas, Trellik Design Studio’s founder, purchased the small Victorian terrace in 2019 with the aim of retrofitting the space “in the spirit of community engagement and cross-disciplinary collaboration.”

This two storey apartment is located on a trapezoidal site at the juncture of two roads, affording windows on three sides and a long view down the main road. Our brief was to make the spaces better suited for a young, active family of four. Most important to our work was to create an open plan on the living floor. Here we took down all the walls except for those defining the hallway and stair to the bedrooms.

Situated at the gateway to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, this new timber-framed pavilion is set to become a new landmark and meeting place for east London.
