Shop Converted to a Flat, Marchmont, Edinburgh
Our client owned this Victorian shop in Marchmont, Edinburgh for several years. They commissioned Capital A to re-design the shop as a two bedroom flat. This was a challenge, as the property is in a conservation area and the layout is not simple.

Creating a design which satisfied the planners, and also the building regulations, was a challenge. Preserving as much of the original shop front and internal features was a priority but the client had a keen desire for a modern layout.

The shop had a basement and this is now a large, luxury bedroom with ensuite. The stair leading downstair has a modern recessed handrail and the original cellar door in the shop front has been re-made as a window to illuminate the space.T... More

Townhouse Renovation, Manor Place, Edinburgh
This 19th Century townhouse is part of Edinburgh New Town UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as being listed category A by Historic Environment Scotland.
The property was used as an office prior to being bough by one of our former client in 2019. It’s always a great vote of confidence when previous clients give us repeat work.

Modernising a 200 Year Old Flat, Edinburgh
This property in Edinburgh New Town was built in 1822 and when our client bought it in 2018 it needed extensive work. The layout was not suitable for modern life and a new design, requiring structural alterations, was required.

We successfully applied for listed building consent for the alterations, which included moving the kitchen to overlook the street and the creation of new ensuite bathrooms for two bedrooms.

Our client purchased this Victorian property in 2018. The original layout placed the main living rooms at the front, overlooking the street. The client wanted to create an open, light-filled kitchen / dining space at the rear, overlooking the long East-facing garden.

This Victorian villa in Eskbank, Midlothian, was in good condition, with a mature rear garden, however the main public rooms were at the front. The property had an original one storey extension at the rear, which housed a kitchen, numerous pantries and a conservatory - all on different levels.
