Dumbo Loft Condo

Set within a historic building in DUMBO, Brooklyn, the DUMBO Loft Condo is a residence designed by KBA for a growing family. Completed in 2024, the project balances the character of a landmark historic structure with a fully custom, contemporary living experience. Zach Pontz Zach Pontz Zach Pontz Zach Pontz The design is defined by bespoke, flexible details throughout—custom elements crafted to adapt alongside the family's evolving needs, rather than a fixed, one-size-fits-all layout. Every room was conceived with dual purpose in mind, allowing spaces to transform as the family's routines and priorities shift over the years, from young children's play areas to future study nooks or guest quarters. Beyond its tailo... More

Palestine Terracotta House

Located in Abu Ghosh, Jerusalem, palestine this unbuilt residence was designed for an Arab family, drawing inspiration from the cultural values that shape domestic life in the region. The project explores how contemporary residential architecture can respond to traditions of privacy, hospitality, and strong family relationships through spatial organization and carefully articulated transitions between public and private areas. Caption The design is organized around a sequence of interconnected living spaces that encourage daily interaction while preserving the independence of individual family members. Rather than relying on physical separation, the house establishes layers of privacy through the arrangement of volumes, courtyards, an... More

Bay Pearl

Light, soft interiors and tactile brick walls — Bay Pearl is a new renovation and second storey addition to an existing Brighton family home. Sitting less than 1km from Port Phillip Bay, this significant renovation has reconfigured the orientation to enjoy the protected north facing garden and the new internal courtyard. Tatjana Plitt The external metal shell protects the lofty internal spaces. Expressed raw, silvery brickwork and inky, black charred-timber cladding lend a honed refinement to the built form. Internally, our lustrous palette includes soothing light, oyster tones. Finely detailed steel elements contrast with lush wool carpet. Tatjana Plitt Locally sourced timber is wrapped and folded for tactile warmth. Larg... More

AP111

The project was conceived with the concept of “Architecture that Embraces”. Clients really like to entertain, hold events at home, and have a large family, so it was important that the rooms were suitable for entertaining. Carol Karnib Carol Karnib Carol Karnib Carol Karnib Carol Karnib During the renovation, some mishaps in the MEP installations have occurred, which is normal for apartment renovations, especially as the property had never undergone renovations. It was a completely original apartment.  Carol Karnib Carol Karnib Carol Karnib Carol Karnib In the interior design, principles of Gestalt and Environmental Psychology were applied to create spaces that involved pregnan... Casa A24

Casa A24 is located in Querétaro, Mexico, in a suburb in the periphery of the city with significant growth and great capital gains. The specific restrictions of the suburb benefited the project by allowing us to create 4 facades, as if it were an isolated lot. Joan Soto Joan Soto Joan Soto Joan Soto The house was designed for a family of 4 members that were looking for the greatest connection in the public interior space. A double height is the heart of the house, to which all spaces connect. It was sought that each of the bedrooms, which are located on the upper floor, had discreet natural lighting and ventilation from the outside, which is why a series of volumes were proposed, like closed boxes, that maintain... Middleyard

The plot – rectangular and slender – is surrounded by tall buildings on the sides and back, which encloses it, and by the road on the front side.Right from the start, the intention was to have a one-story house, which, due to its urban context, would always be surrounded by the refereed taller buildings. Alexander Bogorodskiy The interior and exterior privacy of the house was, therefore, one of the main challenges of this project.A private outdoor space was also intended. However, instead of the common backyard, the approach was to provide a middleyard, in order to achieve some privacy in the outdoor space. The house was designed in a “C” shape, turning its back to the surroundings and facing an interior patio... More

House P in Allgäu

On the edge of a densely built residential area in the Allgäu hills, we created a well-conceived wooden house for a variety of uses. The adjacent popular recreation and landscape conservation area prompted us to incorporate the surrounding nature into the design of the house. The new building follows the proportions of the desolate existing building from the 1960s. The staggered storey set back from the street communicates with the slope, whose original steepness we have restored. The restrained, horizontally structured architecture with a façade made of local wood blends harmoniously into the natural surroundings. Floor-to-ceiling glazing, visual axes and open living spaces that offer numerous views stage nature and bring it in... More

the Blue apartment

A new family apartment for a young family with 2 children.100 sqm apartment + 18 sqm balcony. The words cosy, clean, bright and functional were mentioned. The planing & design process began even before the building was built and so I insisted on making changes that would be almost impossible to do after the completion of the building. One of the biggest changes I had planned was  creating a real space for family hangouts instead of a narrow corridor that was planned. The white spaces are functioning as white canvas for new memories by the young family, combined with touches of Blue throughout the apartment. The hardwood floor gives the house warmth and softens the clean lines and white kitchen walls. The kitchen continues i... More

Combatentes House

The original two semi-detached houses design were done during the 1930. The house was developed to a doctor were the ground floor, in the main façade, was to his own practise. During the 60´s the house underwent enlargement works where lost the characteristics of the original design.   Different materials and spacing scales were mixed without any criteria with the original project. There were clear two eras inside the house and not related between them. The new proposal had as main target to give back a unique identity to the house scaling the spaces and adding materials that gives the continuity between those spaces.   Material Used : 1. Façade – Stone (original) + Thermal Insulation + Plaster 2. W... More

SPV29

“There’s nothing absolutely new, but there is an endless amount of connections and relations between forms, materials and technologies that are not yet made. Innovation means discovering them.” This is how we developed the project about Villa #29. As a house of a young couple with their two kids (5 and 7), located in a residential complex of a closed-type, it defines a particular lifestyle and a set of requirements. The modern cosmopolitan mind and its vision for a city retreat - bringing comfort, high-tech and sophisticated, yet close to nature. “This is a 100% smart-house. Absolutely everything is controlled with a cell phone. It was fun even while we photoshooted it, as someone had set the curtains on the first floor to be controlle... More

House Feigen

A house and two of the wooden huts typical for the area made up the original group of buildings that was the basis for our project; one hut had been converted to a guest house by the previous owners, the other was used as a shed. The brief asked for an adaption of the existing house (originally planned for two people) for use by a family with three children, for an additional guest room and for the building of a new carport. Our strategy was to work on the existing ensemble, defined by the traditional building typology of the area, by selective interpretations and additions. We refer to these elements scattered among the old buildings as 'house satellites'. The façade cladding in the untreated larch boards typical of the area as well as the... More

Zirl House

How can something happen that can no longer be imagined? The productive incorporation of chance is one method of increasing the complexity of the design process. As we know, chance can do both, i.e. it can maintain things in a randomly scattered state and can also allow them encounter each other from time to time. In the case of the Zirl house an emergent machine is intended to provoke the accidental, the unpredictable. The self-constructing structure of model fragments, (building) regulations and fragments of language is a pre-digital version of generative architecture. It is analogous equipment and thus its experimental production of meaning is not dependent upon binary logic. Thus for example "empty" space, which in architecture is alway... More
