MVRDV and Buro Harro complete lush Buitenplaats Koningsweg master plan on former WWII military base
On the outskirts of Arnhem in the eastern Netherlands, a surprising new master plan has come to fruition. Completed by International architectural practice MVRDV, Arnhem-based landscape architectural studio Buro Harro, and developer KondorWessels Projecten, the lush master plan has transformed a former World War II German military base into a residential and cultural enclave in the midst of the Veluwe (a forest-rich, lowland natural reserve). The entire project commenced in 2010 and combines history, housing, culture, and nature in a unique setting.

Buitenverblijf Nest is a quirky folly in the woods
Dutch architectural studios i29 and NAMO Architecture have completed Buitenverblijf Nest, a quirky bird nest-like folly in the Hoge Veluwe National Park.

The folly is part of Buitenplaats Koningsweg, a cultural enclave and former barracks on the edge of Veluwe, a lowland natural reserve on the outskirts of Arnhem in the eastern Netherlands. It is a place dotted with remnants from WWII, including ammunition depots, aircraft hangars, and bunkers, all camouflaged by the area’s ancient forest. As part of a project by the municipality of Arnhem, eleven follies have been built as holiday homes, many of which are used by artists and creative entrepreneurs.

21 Serpentine Pavilions that showcase over two decades of architectural experimentation
Since 2000, Serpentine has given the opportunity for internationally renowned and emerging architects to create their first built structure in England. The aim of the pavilion is to select architects who push the boundaries of contemporary architecture and introduce them to a wider audience.
Architects are asked to design a pavilion that is used as a meeting space and café by day and a forum for learning, debate and entertainment at night. Serpentine collaborates the same way with architects as they do with artists. They aim to realize their vision for a project as close to how they conceived it as possible.

Pavillon
In Pinnow, two houses are planned on a lake land: a tower at the highest point and a pavilion on the meadow to the lake. The property contains all the elements of the Uckermark in miniature: hills, forest, lake, also a cherry tree plantation and greenhouses. This project deals with the motif of the narrative, similar to the romanticism of an English landscape garden. They are half houses of pleasure, half for living, which are adapted in their scale and position to the surroundings, in order to emphasize their artificial dress at the same time.The pavilion as a hexagon offers views both in the cherry trees and the lake.
