Samuel Hartnett Samuel Hartnett Samuel Hartnett Clad in Vulcan timber shingles made from rejected or damaged offcuts, the structures embrace imperfection, giving discarded material new purpose. PALAFITTA

“Palafitta” is born from an image, from the memory of an architectural typology, from the idea of a simple structure proposed in an equally essential and functional element of furniture. The lines emphasize the architectural aspect of the piece, while the play of media and volumes visually reverts the roles. The three-dimensional elements are separated from one another, such as dropped and suspended at the same time. The image of the “Palafitta” takes on a strong connotation determined by the importance of the support that deliberately does not hide, but accentuates the original concept. The volumes reveal themselves by taking on a function and separating each other, showing the added value of the entire creation: the flexibility of the... More

Bikini 32

The building was designed to combine living and working functions in well separated areas, a task that was made easier by the topography and situation of the site that offered the possibility to create two different accesses on different levels. In spite of the narrowness of the constructable area (4.75m), the interiors were supposed to be spacious and generous. Actually, due to its proportions, in several rooms you may see the sun rise and set without even moving. Also, the relation between in and out was an important point, not only in terms of enjoying the garden and views but as an unobtrusive yet continuous interaction with life on the street. Large windows at ground level give the building a touch of weightlessness. Th... More

House Serengeti

This villa is perfectly balanced with an application of earthy textures against high-gloss finishes, and raw material against refined elements. The home combines the use of rock, steel, wood and glass - classic modernist design elements re-mixed for new applications. The idea was to create a luxury family home with an ecologically sound design that maximizes indoor-outdoor living. The street front of the south entry, north facing home features a rusted-steel-clad wall, cleverly mounted on tracks so that it slides back to reveal the garage. Visual continuity is provided through the use of rusted steel frames around the entrance and upper level window frames. Balau was used for a wooden walkway from the street to the front door, which...
