A historical Georgian ruin transformed into a Japanese Teahouse while respecting the building’s own unique charm. This property in Edinburgh New Town was built in 1822 and when our client bought it in 2018 it needed extensive work. The layout was not suitable for modern life and a new design, requiring structural alterations, was required. Square Foot Media We successfully applied for listed building consent for the alterations, which included moving the kitchen to overlook the street and the creation of new ensuite bathrooms for two bedrooms. The kitchen and dining room are located in the basement of a Georgian house. Persistent dampness and a lack of natural light led to the recommendation of terrazzo flooring with a light-gray composition featuring white marble. The entire color palette was chosen in warm tones, complemented by open timber furniture structures. The clients expressed interest in refurbishing their dining set and purchasing shelves for the niches. Abastumani is one of the most well-known mountain-balneological resorts in the country located in the evergreen gorge at the Adjara-Imereti Pass.   Abastumani is 260 km away from the capital of Tbilisi. It lies at the extreme western entrance of Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park with its checkpoint. Abastumani is regarded as a moderately dry resort. A re-imagined Georgian glasshouse re-connects a Listed townhouse to it’s garden. The chamfered glazed enclosure is hung from a black steel frame which serves as structure and ornament.   The challenge was to do this using the footprint of the poorly insulated existing extension (only 12m2) which had become a storage room and acted as a barrier to the garden.   We wanted to create the internal qualities of the contemporary ‘glass box’ without the mundanity of it’s exterior. Our clients’ brief for this project was to add a modern ground floor extension to their Grade II listed Georgian terraced house in Duncan Terrace, Islington. More specifically, they wanted this extension to contain an extra bedroom, a kitchen and a living space which would act as a connection between the house and the garden whilst also respecting the existing Georgian Architecture. The Georgian Choreographic Centre is uniquely located in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, on a southern slope right on the bank of the torrential Mtkvari River. The building houses 12 ballet studios, a small theatre, a school and a college. The musical fan design of the building is inspired by the art of dancing and the turbulence of the river. The slope surrounding the building has been laid out as a gradually rising terrace dynamically developing into floating landscape shapes. Towards the southwest, the dance studios float above the foyer, which turns into a magic landscape of staircase grottoes and terraces.
