Inhabiting the stable
Creation of an apartment in the rural section of a farmhouse in Praz-Pury
The project involves the creation of an apartment in the partially disused rural part of a 1930s farmhouse. Fribourg farmhouses of that era housed both living quarters and farm functions under one roof. The rural section typically consisted of two stables flanking a central passageway — the fourragère — a through-space used for feeding livestock, which also benefited from additional height allowing hay to be stored above the stables.

Conversion of a farmhouse in La Bruyère
Swiss architecture studio BARD YERSIN architectes has completed the transformation of a nineteenth-century farmhouse in La Bruyère, Vuisternens-devant-Romont, Switzerland. The structure is typical of the region, where dwelling and agricultural functions are housed beneath a single roof.

No longer used for agricultural purposes and located outside the building zone, the volume — considerable in scale — had become difficult to maintain in relation to the limited habitable surface permitted. In this context, the mixed programme of housing and permaculture proposed by the client offered an opportunity to renew the building as a whole and extend its use.

The Restaurant of Metasequoia Grove abstracts the form of site trees to develop a purely geometric language
Located in Shanwan Village, Suzhou, China, the Restaurant of Metasequoia Grove is an iconic small single-story project of the governmental rural revitalization program aimed at promoting local agriculture, culture, and tourism. Softly blending in the waterside landscape and carrying a delicate rustic texture, the restaurant is more landscape than architecture as it sits immersed into its natural context.

The first developed phase of the entire project, the building is located at the west end of the site. It operates not only as a restaurant but also a small multi-functional banquet hall that can accommodate various public events.
