Platan Tata

When it came to renovating a beloved property sitting beside an old royal castle, understanding the strengths that are available and empowering those inherent values to distil them down to their most core fundamentals was at the centre of the concept. The Platan, located beside the tranquil Old Lake in Tata, Hungary, has been renewed and reinvigorated by this very understanding. What was once a humble but reputed eatery built into the servant’s quarters of the Esterhazy family’s estate next to the royal castle, has now been transformed into a gastronomic landmark with renowned chef, Istvan Pesti, placed at the heart of the idea. With this heritage literally on the doorstep of the Platan, Gold Key award-winning designer Zoltan Va... More

Off-Grid Guest House

At the heart of the Owner’s objectives for this project were preservation and protection of the natural environment. Located on one of the last remaining undeveloped coastal areas in California, this modern guest house resides on a wildlife preserve; exemplifying a successful balance of residential development and ecological preservation. Nestled into a steep hillside, the residence was designed with low visual and environmental impact on the surrounding landscape. Disguised by a low profile and green roof, the home itself invites sweeping (nearly 360 degree) views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding rolling hills, through a generous amount of sliding glass and expansive decks, which cantilever over the foundation’s steep rock... PINK HOUSE

In the Atlantic island of São Miguel, in the Azores, an old stable from the beginning of the 20th century was converted into two guesthouses where history and contemporaneity coexist in balance.   The design's main goal was to keep the construction's character, lines, and its rural atmosphere, while adapting the enclosed structure to a completely new typology and contemporary regulations. New openings where carefully shredded in the colored façades, as well as on the stone wall, and a new volume was added to the main construction, allowing for a second, smaller house to appear integrated in the whole.   The bigger house develops in two levels: the ground floor opens to the surrounding exterior spaces and reaches... Vertical House

Located on one of the few lots in Dallas elevated enough to enjoy a view of the downtown skyline, the five-story Vertical House rises dramatically above the treetops to capture views of the surrounding gardens and the skyline beyond. Characterized by clean lines, sheer glass walls, and sculptural sun shades, this sharply-detailed house offers an intriguing counterpoint to the tropical ambiance of its forest-like setting. The client, an avid collector of exotic plants, wanted a house that would not only maximize views of the site, but also maintain privacy from neighboring properties. In response, the house was conceived as two interlocking, contrasting volumes: one half is transparent and oriented toward views of the... More

Hotel Wiesergut

Josef (Sepp) and Martina Kröll have transformed a 14th century family estate into a modern retreat that exudes organic warmth and comfort. Your cares will melt away upon crossing the threshold of their alpine hideaway, as you succumb to the lure of the homey hospitality that forms the core of this sanctuary of light, nature, and fresh air. Local traditions take both new and familiar forms at Wiesergut. The plot of land that the Wiesergut stands upon has been in Sepp’s family since 1350 and has been used for small-scale farming since his great-grandmother Gertrude opened a guest house on the property two generations ago. The Kröll family tradition of farm to table continues today at the Wiesergut—with a twist. The hotel’s architecture hig... More
