Gym pavilion

Opened in 1910 in Los Angeles, Berendo is the oldest California middle school continuously operating on the same site.  The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) selected CO Architects to design the new free-standing gymnasium and renovate an existing administrative space into a mental health clinic.  The new gym, playfield, and plaza sustainably extend Berendo’s service to its more than 800 students and the neighboring communities of Pico-Union, MacArthur Park, and Koreatown.  The school has nearly 100 percent minority enrollment, the majority of students being Hispanic and economically disadvantaged. After Beijing won the right to host the 2022 Winter Olympics, the National Sports Bureau gave great support to the folk promotion of the ice and snow sports, and the people also showed great enthusiasm. In this context, two new all-seasons dry snow ski resorts have been built in Beijing and Qingzhou, Shandong recently. In the snow-free season, they will provide training grounds for the national single-board Olympic team. Enabling the improvement of the existing "Quercus" State Secondary School facilities, the scheme organizes the exterior area of the School, providing play spaces and a new gym pavilion. Located at the highest level of the north border of the town of Malpartida de Plasencia, the site has is a significant level change of 17 m across it. Landscaping: the brief includes a new vehicular access from the Town Center as well as a new external playground area and a 22 x 44m sport court.
