Urban Hospice
NORD Architects has designed a new hospice for the deaconess community, located in Copenhagen, Denmark. The project replace an existing hospice, and is designed to reflect and support the notion that healing architecture has a positive effect on palliative patients. The overall form and concept were heavily influenced by the complex site conditions and the proximity of the neighbouring built context. Within these parameters, the vision was to create a warm and protecting atmosphere. The design incorporates both curved and rectilinear elements that allow for an optimal functional layout, built around a private inner courtyard.
The hospice accommodate a capacity of 16 beds.

Rijnstate Ziekenhuis, spoed eisende Hulp
Rijnstate has been paying more and more attention to healing environments since 2008. The healing environment concept originates from the USA and its basic principle is that a carefully designed environment has a beneficial effect on the well-being of the patient. The advantages include a generally shorter hospital stay, reduced medication requirements and a better experience for the patient. The Rijnstate Hospital aims to offer its patients a transparently organized environment without stress factors. Color and art - at floor level as well as on the walls - provide a pleasant distraction.

Erasmus MC-Sophia Children's Hospital
The Erasmus MC-Sophia Children's Hospital was in urgent need of renovation. EGM architecten renovated the departments, completed the Newborn Centre, the Oncology Centre and part of the Perinatal Centre. These renovations make the hospital up-to-date and ready for the future. The Newborn Centre received a mix of luxury accommodation and birthing rooms with hotel-like style. Bamboo, quiet yet fresh material, colour use and the abundance of light create a warm healing environment. A major operation was the realisation of the Oncological Centre. Outpatient, laboratory, clinic and polyclinic were previously housed in different parts of the hospital, but now they are placed together.
