Heldentoren

At the Belgian coast, where sea, landscape and city converge, the Heldentoren introduces a new landmark while carefully reconnecting an important piece of the urban fabric. © Sarah Blee | Neutelings Riedijk Architects © Sarah Blee | Neutelings Riedijk Architects © Sempergreen The project occupies the former Casino Kursaal site in Knokke-Heist, overlooking the North Sea and the Heldenplein. Rather than treating the commission as the design of a residential tower alone, the ambition was to create an entire urban ensemble that strengthens the relationship between the town centre, the seafront promenade and the public square. Density becomes a means to improve the city, creating new public space, generous pedestri... More

Epic Tower

Rising in the heart of Brazil’s Northeast, the EPIC Tower is more than a building – it is an urban landmark that redefines how architecture, functionality, and innovation converge. Achilles

An unlikely design for 12 homes. B-too has developed a concept in Almere for affordable social housing on a plot where only high-rise buildings seemed the solution. The study shows that this way of living is a good social solution to allow elderly and young working people to live in their familiar surroundings. Image Courtesy B-too   Unexpected On a location, slated for 12 residences, where high-rise seemed the only option, we designed something unexpected. Using round shapes and internal gardens, the amount of area these homes occupy is limited, a positive aspect in this restricted space. It allows for close placement without compromising privacy. The circular design provides the flexibility to position each home at a unique... More

The Pavilia Bay

THE PAVILIA BAY is a luxury residential project that sails under iridescent sunlight upon the Rambler Channel. The project site sits on the waterfront, and the brilliant sunset over the waters struck the heart of the designer – basked in sunlight, the concept for THE PAVILIA BAY was thus conceived. In the dense city of Hong Kong, this magnificent open view must be highlighted – the project can be read as a yacht embarking its journey towards the waters. The themes of ‘sunshine’ and ‘yachting’ was carried all the way from macro building form, elevation, interiors, down to micro details such as door handle and signage designs. The nautical design language and visualisation of sunlight is articulated through and highlighted by t... 18 King Wah Road

Amid the heavy rains of a typhoon in Hong Kong last July, we were very lucky to have had a few moments of clean sky for the photoshoot of Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects’ project, 18 King Wah Road. Located in North Point, the eastern district of Hong Kong Island, 18 King Wah Road is a new 23-story office building in Hong Kong and second commission for Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects. 18 King Wah Road commands a striking view of Victoria Harbor and Kowloon Bay, and to the west, PCPA’s iconic International Financial Centre marks the skyline. In contrast to the density of its urban neighbors, the design of PCPA’s building is airy and buoyant. The triple-height Y-shaped columns that support the base of the tower deliver an exciting visual on... More

CasaNova

In the Maritime District, the first triangular tower in the Rotterdam skyline is emerging. CasaNova is a 110-metre tower with an iconic silhouette. The building forms an ensemble with The Muse, the sculptural residential tower by Barcode Architects on the adjacent plot, which was completed last year. Both towers are designed in synergy, both architecturally and in terms of the collective program.  Christian van der Kooy Within the city boundaries, densification through high-rise is a favorable option, but anonymous volumes where residents don't know each other should be avoided. With CasaNova, we want to create a three-dimensional part of the city, where people live healthily, neighbours know each other and there is a pleasant at... More

Marek Hruby The Crystal building's height exceeds the height of surrounding structures, creating a high-rise counterpart to the nearby Casablanca office tower that subtly and sensitively fits in with the existing urban environment. Its significant height and shape means that this building has a unique and unexpected look, from every a... More

Orchard Central

At 11 storeys, Orchard Central is Singapore’s first high-rise shopping centre. Unlike the other projects featured in this chapter, Orchard Central is a new build. As such, it incorporates many of the characteristics developed in past Orchard Road projects while pushing their concepts to new extents. In the ongoing evolution of tropical mall architecture, Orchard Central’s new modes of site integration make great strides in the extroversion of retail space. The design of Orchard Central wraps and injects private commercial space with the public space of Orchard Road, activating all 11 storeys of the mall with street connectivity. The façade hosts an exploratory circulation system that places the visitor in unique relationships with the s... More
