Washington Crossing Visitor Center & Museum

The Washington Crossing Visitor Center and Museum is a 12,000 SF point of orientation and exhibit gallery at the historic site of General George Washington’s 1776 dramatic Christmas Day crossing of the Delaware River that turned the tide of the American Revolution. The State of New Jersey desired to place a new museum close to the Delaware River where the site of the crossing, its most powerful artifact, would be visible to visitors. Setting the museum in an historic and ecologically sensitive site near the river required a sensitive solution to minimize its mass and presence in the delicate historic landscape. Inspired by the gently sloping topography along the river’s edge, the concept is a biophilic response that integrates t... More

MUSNAF | Natural History Museum

The new layout of the Museum of Natura l History and Academy of Sciences, hosted in the former "della Rosa" monastery of the Camaldolese Order in Siena, is the result of an operation with attention to the pre-existent, without ignoring the interpretation of new requirements deriving from the functional and systemic upgrades, expressed in a contemporary, restrained and wel l-ca librated language. The inclusion of the compound in the museum system of Siena since 1996 made it necessary to reorganise and modernise the exposition space by augmenting the cultural, educational and expositional aspects of the museum as a whole. Developed and implemented by a series of successive functional lots beginning in 2000, the design was initially directed b... More

Breathing Nature

An AR experience zone within the utopian garden filled with scent of flowers.   As you follow the scent of smoke, you will face a flower that holds the warmth. Kult

The kult is a new cultural hub for the town of Vreden and a vibrant focal point on its cultural route. It combines a 1.400 sqmartistic-historical museum with the cultural administration of the district, the local archives, an educational space, a tourist information point, a museum store and spaces for events and temporary exhibitions. The centre aims to walk the delicate line between sensitively integrating itself in the medieval heritage and establishing a contemporary landmark that actively contributes to Vreden’s cultural and social life. Its sculpturality is directly developed from the context, extending the small-scale structure of the housing along Vreden’s medieval wall and defining the town's edge.A new urban cultural route begins in... Historical Museum Frankfurt

Situated in the city centre of Frankfurt, between the town hall and the Main river, is the completely refurbished and newly extended Historical Museum Frankfurt. Kossmann.dejong designed three exhibitions – one temporary and two permanent – that highlight the many faces of Frankfurt. For the ‘Typically Frankfurt!’ exhibition, which connects the entrance with the new building, Kossmann.dejong designed a snow globe – one of the most ubiquitous tourist souvenirs – to start the museum experience. Inside the globe, visitors encounter eight clichéd representations of the city illustrated in eight different scenes built as scale models made by eight international artists. Visitors choose which cliché they would like to see and a spe... More

History Museum Graz - Schaudepot

The client, a public institution in the Austrian region, Styria, needed a fresh concept for the History Museum’s permanent exhibitions and its entrance, housed within a significant historic building at Graz’s city center. The task was to present an enormous number of objects acquired since the Middle Ages and multimedia archives of the 20th century in an historic space that required careful treatment. The adaptation of the museum entrance required a solution that subtly enhance the entrance attraction of a previously very hidden and dark atrium. A custom iron “carpet” was laid over historic stone flooring with an aim to direct and offer a platform for exploration. The lighting installation above is created by Austri... More
