Craywinckel

In this project we carried out a complete transformation of a two-level residence, reshaping it to suit the daily life of a large family. With three children, the owners were searching for a welcoming, practical, and customized home. They acquired an apartment to renovate, where the new layout became essential to maximize the available surface and bring natural light into the darker areas. The daytime zone becomes the true core of the home, arranged in two spaces connected through wall openings: a generous and comfortable living room designed for both rest and social gatherings, and a dining area seamlessly linked to the kitchen. The concept encourages interaction while ensuring the independence of each environment, achieving a balance bet... More

Nishigahara House

Located in Nishigahara, a central north area of Tokyo, this project is the renovation of a two-floor family house. The first approach came from the desire of the owner to live in a DIY atmosphere where he could make the space unique with furniture custom made and crafted by himself. akiranakamuraphotography.tumblr.com Traditionally, dwellings in Japan were built with only a little or even without heat insulation at all, causing the inside to be excessively cold for nowadays standards. M House

This renovation plan for a condominium located in central Hachioji, Tokyo, aims to create a neutral space for contemporary art and furniture that has been collected over many years. Caption With a future conversion into a rental property in mind, the layout remains mostly unchanged to retain the existing 2LDK floorplan for high versatility. On the other hand, the use of finishing materials, residential equipment, and lighting fixtures that are of a higher grade than most condominiums creates a high-end living space. Caption The inclusion of black as an accent color amid the primary colors of gray and wood tones creates a quiet and calm space. While elements such as the flooring and TV stand, which will remain unchanged over the... More

3-D green tile pattern key to the total transformation of this Lisbon villa

Spacious, light and functional are words to describe this ambitious transformation of a 70-year old villa in Lisbon undertaken by architect João Tiago Aguiar. A pool is situated in the lower, more sheltered area towards the south of the site, thus benefiting from longer periods of sunlight. The mas... More

Woodridge Renovation

The homeowners approached Collaborative after being inspired by projects on the website. Their goal was to introduce modern upgrades to their 1970’s split-level home to better prepare for changing family needs. Collaborative’s challenge was to utilize the existing geometry of the house and insert refreshing contemporary details. Challenging built conditions required the design and construction teams to find creative solutions that were sensitive to the client’s budget while maintaining the design intent.   A minimalist material and color composition helped improve the home’s curb appeal and entry sequence. Steel plate canopies at the main entry and garage door further define the contemporary aesthetic. The interior of the home was a collabo... More
