In a close collaboration with our client, we understood the requirements of a contemporary academy for the performing arts, and prepared flow diagrams, layout plans and advised on interior finishes. Concept/Philosophy The School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada, attempts to make the campus an institutional center in the city of Vijayawada. The institutional building is a platform for academic debate, exchange and dissemination and becomes a deep gateway and an interface to the entire. Caption The building intends to create an interactive community learning environment nestled within its cultural context with a keen focus on environmental sensitivity. Nestled atop a rocky plateau in Lavale, a small village on the outskirts of Pune, the Symbiosis International University campus creates an idyllic and vibrant learning environment. A project of its own challenge and uniqueness that prompted us to shape the very definition of a government school. The main focus was to sculpt the school from an existing plan and dimension into a vibrant zone of learning, a place where kids can finally feel that the school is indeed built for them. Light, color, gathering spaces, greenery, scale, and most importantly, the kids have made this government school as what it is. After construction of Phases A and B, Phase C of the masterplan called for an extension of the school to accommodate up to 1200 students divided into junior, middle and senior schools as well as a kindergarten and a special needs learning center. The new construction will also include a multi purpose hall, a cultural center with dance and music studios and an academic center with computer, language and science labs.The existing buildings informed the design and placement of new blocks. The K12 school, located in Chandigarh is spread over 4.6 acres of suburban land. “Learning through Spatial Experiences” has been the guiding design principle for the school. The building blocks along with a simple circulation plan helps create several courts of variable spatial quality in the campus. These courts are well shaded due to the carefully placed building orientations. Such variety of open spaces encourages spontaneous activities and collaboration for the school children. This is a two-phase project for the College of Arts and Sciences, and design for phase one began in 2017. Atelier MjK is the interior/signage consultant. The first phase includes the renovation of 7,480 sf in one of the University’s 1960s brutalist buildings, and the second phase of this project, anticipated to start later this year, will be a 40,000 sf renovation. The project is an extension to the teaching infrastructure for the BioEngineering Department. Tecnológico de Monterrey’s Queretaro campus was initially organized in a more or less recognizable Cartesian mesh in its first built volumes, arbitrarily rotated 41 degrees from the north. Given the absence of order and intention in the infrastructure that was built in the last 20 years, Sasaki Design was invited to develop a new master plan.
