South Refineries Company Headquarters
Positioned within the industrial landscape of Basra, the South Refineries Company Headquarters emerges as a synthesis of science, culture, and climate-responsive design. The project is conceptually rooted in two intersecting narratives: the molecular geometry of benzene and the cultural symbolism of the traditional Iraqi shemagh. Together, these ideas generate an architecture that is both rational and deeply contextual.

Sûreté du Québec Police Station, Waterloo
Located on a sloping site between an industrial district and a residential neighborhood, the new Sûreté du Québec police station in Waterloo is conceived as a compact, specialized civic building whose roof functions as a fifth elevation. The program brings together administrative areas, officer services, investigation spaces, and a detention sector, each requiring strict security, confidentiality, and acoustic separation. The building settles into the topography with a restrained street facade while opening toward the landscape.
Developed by Cimaise Architecture and STGM in consortium, the design introduces an inclined roof with a folded geometry inspired by the mountain chains of Québec’s Eastern Townships... More

Lone Madrone Residence
Located on a rocky, wind-swept south facing shoreline; this 1,600sf retreat home nestles into the landscape in order to harmonize with it’s surroundings and minimize exposure to weather. Designed with retractable wall panels to protect from punishing winter storms, the house nevertheless opens up completely to the outdoors when the weather is fair — allowing the owners to fully interact with the landscape and view. The site is within the San Juan Islands National Monument, with extremely sensitive shorelines and marine environment. In order to minimize impacts to natural systems, a garden roof was employed to replace landscape lost to construction, and storm-water flows were engineered to replicate the pre-construction condition... Open Roof Space
Educational institutions are increasingly seeking ways to rethink and transform learning environments in a way that increases the possibility of exploration. With this aim in mind, The Private Sezin School in Istanbul approached ATÖLYE’s spatial design team in 2014, to design a space for for K-12 students to enable problem-based learning by engaging 21st century skills.Instead of considering educational structures in the conventional sense, ATÖLYE sought to reimagine the 1,700 m2 rooftop space of the Private Sezin School as a pedagogical laboratory, in which different facilities were integrated transparently. In designing this space, the ATÖLYE team considered the need for deliberate interaction zones between parents and teachers,... More
