Mosque of the Late Mohamed Abdulkhaliq Gargash masterfully employs form, materiality and controlled natural light
The Mosque of the Late Mohamed Abdulkhaliq Gargash (Dubai, UAE) is a contemporary place of worship that quietly and masterfully employs form, materiality and controlled natural light to evoke a sense of calm and spiritual connection as the worshipper transitions from the outer material world to an inner sense of being. The Mosque is one of the first in the UAE to be designed by a female architect – Principal Architect and Founder Sumaya Dabbagh of Dabbagh Architects.

Simplifying the traditional typology of Islamic form and stripping it away to its essence, Dabbagh Architects sought to avoid multiple blocks in the building’s overall form. In the process of design development, the main building volume was separ... More

Designing in Tehran
In United Colors of Benetton’s “Designing in Tehran” competition, designers were challenged to compose a mixed-use commercial and office space that would establish Benetton’s brand as a unique and contemporary contributor to Tehran’s rich and complex urban fabric. In our design we spoke to this complexity, using a semitransparent shell to negotiate relationships between public and private space. This shell screens the more vulnerable parts of our structure f... More

Modern Islamic Home Interior Design
A modern Islamic home features the best of both the contemporary aesthetic and Islamic traditions. It is the best possible amalgamation of these two sensibilities, and CAS expertly managed to capture it all in the interior design and decoration of this home in Muscat, Oman. The client wanted their home to emulate a dichotomous style that embraced the beauty of the Middle Eastern culture in tandem with a rather modern finish. The CAS team responded by designing a modern Islamic home interior design that comprises mostly modern design elements, with an Islamic style twist. For example, the geometric patterns on the railing firmly juxtaposes the sleekness of the other surroundings. Decorative lanterns that boast an Islamic style aesthetic glow... More

White Modern Islamic Villa Exterior Design
Islamic building exteriors have always been renowned for their meticulous and symmetrical geometry, whereas modernity is represented by stark surfaces and clean lines. The CAS design team artfully merged these two aspects in the design of this white modern Islamic villa exterior design in Jeddah, KSA. The intricate mashrabah’s are framed by elegant pointed arch windows, and the tall order of the entrance is designed in the image of the ‘iwan.’ However, the traditional aspect of this villa exterior is balanced out with the clean geometry and austere white color scheme articulated with stone. Together, these two styles evoke a dichotomous aesthetic that captures the Islamic culture and gives the overall exterior a solid identity at the same t... More
