This care home in the small municipality of Zoersel was designed on the initiative of a private client. They set up a partnership with non-profit organisation Emmaus to develop a residential project for the family’s granddaughter and eight other residents with a mental disability. Blending into a 12,000 sqm site in Karpathos, on a secluded area on the outwards of Menetes village, three villas make their appearance in the most humble way.   With a 23% site slope, the villas emerge from the landscape in a linear arrangement parallel to the view, respecting the natural topography. Placed amphitheatrically, the three villas have unobstructed views to the Aegean Sea while offering privacy and seclusion to their guests. This project for a public garden wants to rediscover the deep roots of a place. The area consists on the reclaiming as a public garden of a site where 1,000 years ago used to stand the vineyards of Ariberto, Archbishop of Milan and leading character of the Church of that time. The design consists of three rings, whose shape was suggested by the topography of the site. While giving shape the internal pathways they identify a system of ‘rooms’. The continuous, monolithic, rings are stuck into the ground literally dissecting it with the aim of revealing its historical depth. The extensive spaces adjacent to Eindhoven airport were the subject of a major redevelopment project, completed in April 2020, that included the construction of a large avenue serving as a link between the passenger terminal and a new multi-functional, multi-storey building. Designed by MTD landscape architects, the large, tree-lined avenue is a public space that combines functionality with careful attention to the local ecosystem. The large beds that line the pavements have been filled with trees such as Scots pine and white birch, typical of Brabant, the region where Eindhoven is located. London based AI Studio has revealed plans for an installation at the popular Burning Man festival - now cancelled for this year, due to the Covid-19 crisis. The proposal was to construct a pavilion inspired by Lenin’s Mausoleum – an iconic representation of the Soviet era and the final resting place of revolutionary leader Vladimir Lenin.  AI Studio’s pavilion reinterprets a typical, closed, tomb as an open and permeable space. The site is located in an old and quiet neighborhood of Sakata city, Yamagata prefecture, near the national highway that runs through the Tohoku region. On house is designed for a family of four whose design brief detailed the need for a house that can cater to the individuality of each member of the family. The Rosedale Residence is a ground up 6,000 sf house on the last available site adjacent to the historic Rosedale Conservancy, located in Cleveland Park in northwest Washington, DC. The Conservancy dates back 280 years into Washington history and is home to one of the oldest private residences in the area. Over the years, the neighborhood grew up around the estate as lots bordering the three-acre, conserved green space were sold off. The lawn is now open to the public and serves as a dog park for the community. The last available lot near the conservatory, 3/4 acre, was purchased by a young family interested in building their dream home on these grounds.
