Painter's lake house
Faced with the task of designing a house for artists in Latvia, we first got acquainted with the cultural heritage of Latvian architecture of the past. After that, we paid attention to the modern private development of the suburbs. This gave us a clear understanding of the development and character of Latvian architecture. Based on the information received, we deduced our “eclectic architectural code” which we applied in this project.

It consists of a canonical thatched roof, the use of wooden exterior trim and minimalist white stucco, which gives lightness to the whole building.

KRM House
A pavilion-style house informed by the ancient Latvian farmstead – the viensēta. Designed as a holiday home, the house encourages the owners’ connection to themselves, each other and the natural surroundings. It sits within a sparsely populated area of Gauja National Park in Latvia where passing wildlife is more common than humans. Nature entertains, inspires and provokes. Life doesn’t just take place indoors, it flows betweeen the exterior and interior with the terrace as a facilitator.

Salt House design a response to the unique climate of the Latvian coast
Salt House by Brigita Bula Architects is located 250 km from Latvia’s capital city of Riga, on the seashore of Pavilosta, a small fishing town popular with water sports fans and nature lovers. The historical centre of the town is characterized by low gable-roof houses on an orthogonal street plan. Each of the perpendicularly intersecting streets leads to the beach and provides direct views of the sea.
Reinis Hofmanis
A total of 240 square meters, the one-storey Salt House is situated on a seaside meadow. The simple and elongated horizontal volume likens itself to a thin sea wave-like line in the landscape.
In response to the area’s temperate climate and strong winds, the building is constructed with thick, monolith... More

House ILL
A small private house is located in a picturesque place about 30 km from Riga. The land plot is on the boarder of the forest and is located near the Gulf of Riga.A separate position of the buildings (house and garage) on the site is due to the fact that they were erected on the previously existing foundations. The buildings are connected by a terrace. The house is functionally divided into two parts: the main and guest areas. Connection between the zones is carried out through an indoor passage in the building, which visually connects the courtyard with the forest. For external finishing and the terrace, Latvian granary board impregnated with a hydrophobic compound was used. The roof and facades of the house are finished with anthracite stand... More
