Polker by sin hei kwok takes a new approach to suburban sprawl in Phoenix, Arizona
In response to the well-documented suburban sprawl of Phoenix, Arizona, which began in the 1950s, owner/developer/designer sin hei kwok has shown there is another approach to development with Polker, a higher density, multifamily development on a typical residential lot (size 140’ x 50’). With six rental units, the project is an example of urban infill development that encourages a more sustainable, walkable city.

Crystallized forms generate dynamic spaces at the Yingliang Stone Natural History Museum
In China’s coastal city of Xiamen, the Yingliang Stone Natural History Museum by Atelier Alter Architects is a new museum added to an existing headquarter office that showcases a manufacturer’s collection of fossils, which include dinosaur eggs and insect amber.

Two key design challenges the architects tackled were firstly differentiating between a private office and public museum, and secondly drawing direct sunlight gained at the atrium space and distributing it into the building.

Riverdale Townhomes
These live-work townhouses are located on a quiet street in Toronto’s rapidly densifying Riverdale neighbourhood. The project was separated into two phases. Phase 1, towards the South end of the block, consists of five deep units each with a mezzanine studio and an interior garden. Phase 2, towards the North end, consists of five shallower units and is serviced by a laneway at the rear.The townhouse blocks are developed on two existing, vacant, industrial properties separated by a residential building inbetween. One unique condition of Phase 1 is its landlocked nature; the site is bound by residential and industrial buildings on three sides. Mrs Custard's House
An internal glazed and plant filled courtyard fosters a blurring of boundaries between the inside and outside at Mrs Custard's House in Brixton, London. Black brick wraps ribbon-like from the master bedroom through the kitchen and dining room and settles to form a second sunken courtyard. We created a generous and light-filled sequence of spaces which work both for our clients and for Mrs Custard, their cat. In fact, Mrs Custard is the proud owner of a cat flap which takes her through a cupboard, up some steps, through the wall and onto the bench outside. She couldn’t be happier. More
