Vanguard

The interior of the apartment in the Vanguard Prague project goes to the core, admitting structural elements, revealing its static essence. In its austerity, it functions as a blank canvas, it stands out honestly, nakedly. Caption Caption Caption Caption It gains its distinctiveness in artistic detail, where it is not afraid to choose an invasion of intense red. It thus adds an element of contrast to the interior, an individualistic artistic style and a revival to the exact character of the space. Caption Caption Caption Caption More

Stepped Loft

Andre Kong Studio has extended a Victorian terraced house in southeast London by extruding a series of stepped brick volumes hosting a new bedroom, study and bathroom.  Luke O'Donovan The brief emerged out of two significant post-lockdown changes for the family: the arrival of another child and a shift to permanently working from home. Suddenly the family were outgrowing their house and needed more space and a refuge from the rest of the busy youth-filled household. Luke O'Donovan   Echoing the original plan of the house, the massing follows its L-shape, breaking down an otherwise imposing mass. This is achieved with volumes that step down like a telescope, pulling out of each other, articulating clerestories for ligh... More

Villa in the Park, Alkmaar

Living in the Park The design instructions for this residential project were to design a modern family house from scratch that fits in well with the 1960s bungalow neighbourhood near the center of the city of Alkmaar in the North of Holland. To be able to comply with the desired square meters, a new freestanding two-storey house was designed with a sloping roof that refers to the old bungalows in the neighbourhood. The deep back garden and the unobstructed view of the adjacent park were decisive in placing the living room and kitchen at the back of the house. The transparent facades, the open floor plan and the atrium allows sunlight to penetrate deep into the house. A lounge/ cinema room with an office along site has been created at the f... More

Firm architects transforms unusable attic space into minimal loft

Firm architects transforms a previously unsuitable attic space in Amsterdam into a stylish loft. A few years before, a previous owner raised the roof some fifty centimeters. After that the space was sold as a renovation project. Studio de Nooyer The client desired an "honest, masculine and architectural space" with as much usable area as possible. Firm architects interprets this into the concept of ‘a new elevation on an old basis.’  Studio de Nooyer The entire space exhibits a cut at a height of 95 centimeters above the floor. The height has both a practical and a more poetic reason. On the one hand, it is the height of kitchen cabinets and handrails, and on the other hand, it is the central point of the male b... More
