Campus Orange Lyon

The new regional headquarters for telecommunications company Orange is an extension and renovation of an old telephone exchange. While making the most of the industrial building, it also gives an urban coherence to the city block by breaking the project into two ‘folded’ volumes that wrap around the existing building. Our starting position with regards integration within the neighbourhood was to create a large, uniform building on a continuous ground plane, so reducing what we see as the negative effects of a multiple development, which can be overloaded with too many building types and too many textures. The new buildings find harmony in the homogenous grid of their facades (echoing the existing building) and the cut surfaces tha... La Chaufferie

The old boiler house in Antiquaille is a great example of 20th Century rational concrete architecture : simple volumes, intelligibility, obvious structure. Our renovation approach was to fill the existing, yet empty volume with 30 dwelling units on four different floors. Apart from the awning and other elements added lately (stairs, the lift…) that have been removed, the main layout and structure of the building have not been modified. Our committed work of reinterpretation resulted in keeping the spirit of the existing construction and going further than just rebuilding missing or damaged elements in today’s concrete : instead, they are built in wood! Renovation apartment 30's

In this project, we took care of the complete rehabilitation of this Lyon style apartment 1930. The property was in a was more than deplorable. So we had to start all over again. The client wanted to install reversible air conditioning: we therefore had to create false ceilings accordingly. All windows have also been changed.Regarding the layout: we moved the kitchen and installed it at the other end of the apartment. We have created an additional bathroom accessible from the master bedroom and an additional toilet in the children's bathroom.Regarding aesthetics: we were surprised to find parquet under the carpet. The latter was repaired, sanded and we produced a natural matt varnish, after having defibrated it. All the joinery was painted... More

Food Market Part-Dieu

In Lyon, Forme and Boman design the 1st temporary and reversible food court in one of the biggest shopping centers in France, La Part-Dieu.   Le Food Market, the staple of Parisian street food launched in 2015 on the boulevard de Belleville, has just moved into the ground-floor of the La Part Dieu shopping center in Lyon. It will stay for a year, as a teaser for a bigger food court scheduled to open in 2020.   Inspired by the emblematic steel tubes of French travelling market stalls, the architects have created a surprising atmosphere : a gigantic scaffold unfolds in the entire restaurant space.   Designed and built with a zero waste objective, the entirety of the installation is removable and recyclable. The building s... More

Pignons sur rue

Broadening horizons«Pignons sur rue» is the first residential building built as part of the urban regeneration of the Pérouses neighbourhood in the town of Brignais, near Lyon. The plan has ambitious goals in terms of architecture and social engagement. It is pioneering and stands as a marker in the urban environment. It is the trigger for change: instigating a new dynamic, setting the tone, and prefiguring the transformation. However, the architects were not working off a blank page and had to compose with the existing history, the town being rebuilt on itself.Surrounded by allotments, and buildings being demolished or renovated, the block stands as a testament, a softer, gentler feature in what is still a difficult setting. The urban layo... More

Covered Market – Lyon, France

In France, people love to buy groceries at the open air markets that are organized on a regular basis in various squares or parking lots. There, one can find almost anything: from fruits and vegetables to clothes and home equipment. Shopping on the market allows clients to have a direct contact with the local farmers and so the origin and the quality of their production are guaranteed. The project of a covered market is adapted to the temporary character of the event. Thus the construction is light and easy to mount, using wood as main material. The main goal is to insure a covered space for the market to protect it from a direct sun or rain. When the market is closed the structure can continue to serve its function to other events, i.e. ex... More

This EBP building is located in the new "Lyon Smart Community" area, Confluence.Designed by the Japanese Architect Kengo Kuma and realized by Bouygues immobilier, this 12 800 m² block is made up of 3 buildings. A tedious but environmentally oriented work helped to develop buildings that benefit either for the highest natural lighning, or reduce noise disturbance. The architects preferred gigh dimensions' glass openings to emphasize the lightning. Thanks to the produced energy storage and pooling, Hikari is capable of supplying its own energy for the 3 blocks. Photovoltaic panels are l... More

Rooms with a view

Rooms with a view", evokes not only the film of the same name, but also the magic of a domestic, landscaped setting. It is in this poetic, yet functional, spirit that the architects imagined their project for the LEGTA (Agricultural Technological and General High School) boarding house in Saint-Genis Laval. The need to comply with very stringent energy standards (BEPAS ) increased the complexity of the project’s starting point which was to provide an appropriate architectural solution for an imposing programme, which would fit into an agricultural landscape and organise the relationship with the existing buildings.A co-educational 96-bed boarding house with communal areas (common room, study rooms and staff housing) in addition to the teachi...
