This is the story of a Palazzo in Valletta. Among its stunning ruins there are many hidden ‘treasures’, buried in dust and trash. Thanks to its new owners, the building will finally get the chance to rise from its own ashes. Full renovation of a 200 year old palazzo to transform it into a five suite furnished holiday rental property. Each suite is themed after an animal of the jungle - so guests can select which suite they want to enjoy and have a new experience if they return again. The Portughes brand is no stranger to the Maltese context, as it has a strong presence throughout the island as the leading laundry and dry cleaning company. ​ The proposal for this new self service outlet - a first of its kind for Malta - aims to give the Portughes brand a new, updated look and visual identity. The launderette is conceived as a singular, monolithic element, which is then carved out to accommodate the program. Using a monochromatic palette of greys - all rendered in different materials with various subtle contrasts in texture and hue; spaces are created via the playful exchange of line and curve. ICI HQ was a unique endeavor for 3DM. Starting as a simple vision to house different building industry professionals under one roof, a building was materialized that allows for exhibition and collaboration.    The building is divided into three main areas: workshops are located at level -1, retail centers and exhibition spaces at levels 0 and 1, and offices at level 2. The form of the building is designed with the interplay between solid and transparent volumes in mind.   It-Tieqa Żerqa, more popularly known as the Azure Window, was an icon of the Maltese islands. Following a storm in March of 2017, the arch collapsed into the sea, and there was no way to restore it. However, we have a plan to give this symbol a new life:   The Heart Of Malta is a polygonal architectural form with mirrored steel faces, which will blend into the landscape, and have the same size and proportions as the original limestone arch.
