In the pedestrian heart of Padua, Essentia redefines the concept of a showroom through an intervention that works on spatial continuity and the expressive power of surfaces. The project moves beyond simple commercial display to create a unified organism, where cement resin, stone, and wood become architectural matter that guides the visitor from the public dimension of the ground floor toward the immersive and intimate dimension of the basement. CASA GAZ consists of the renovation of an apartment from 1955 in Madrid. The design poses itself as a way to blur domestic conventions, where the house becomes an adaptable vessel for its residents, creating ambiguous areas where anything can happen. The designer of this project believes that the key to achieving a comfortable living space is to keep things simple. His clear-minded approach to transforming the dated and inefficient interiors of this 27-year-old three-storey intermediate terrace home in the east of Singapore is evident. The once dark and claustrophobic walled-in spaces on the ground level have been replaced by a series of open plan zones dressed in a controlled colour scheme that takes advantage of the existing height and depth of the space. Alex, the name of the project as well as that of its owner, was designed as a utopian space for a bachelor who loves the bare beauty of minimalist lines. This new 47 sqm two-room public housing flat came with the standard compartmentalised areas for living, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. VC Good design is based on function, and I’m not afraid to break conventions to achieve it. I removed unnecessary internal walls and doors to achieve a continuous flow of space, with functions positioned and designed in a way which considers ease of use and the homeowner’s priorities. The scheme provides a new rear single storey extension to a Victorian terraced flat in South London. The flat was in poor condition and required a full refurbishment and reconfiguration throughout. The clients, young professionals, were involved throughout the whole process and imagined a concept of light colours and natural materials. The challenge was introducing a Japanese cultural icon into the heart of old Tbilisi with a nod to Georgian cultures.
