Rather than designing around rooms, The Nest House was designed around routines.
Every space responds to the daily rituals of a young family, transforming ordinary moments into intuitive experiences through thoughtful planning, hidden functionality and carefully considered design.
From the very beginning, the project focused on understanding how the family lives, gathers and moves throughout the day. The result is a home that feels effortless to inhabit, where every element has a purpose while maintaining a calm, uncluttered atmosphere.
Large monolithic volumes conceal generous storage, allowing everyday objects to disappear from view without compromising accessibility. At the centre of the home, the spacious kitchen becomes the family's main gathering place, integrating carefully planned organisation systems that simplify everyday use. Functional spaces, including the pantry, boiler room and staircase, are discreetly concealed within the kitchen composition, preserving the clarity of the open-plan layout.
A carefully curated palette of materials creates continuity throughout the house. Warm wood veneers extend seamlessly from the entrance through the kitchen and living areas, while tactile finishes and subtle contrasts add depth without overwhelming the architecture. Rather than defining each room individually, the material language connects the entire home into one cohesive experience.
Natural light further shapes the atmosphere. A distinctive circular window frames views towards the garden and swimming pool, while a generous corner opening visually connects the ground floor with the double-height gallery above.
Suspended within the gallery, a lounging net becomes the emotional heart of the home, part playground, part reading nook and part cinema lounge, bringing the family together in unexpected ways while encouraging moments of play, rest and connection. The gallery also accommodates a flexible home office that easily transforms into a guest room through an integrated sofa bed.
The same design philosophy continues into the private spaces. The master suite combines warmth and understated elegance through custom veneer detailing, while the open wardrobe and bathroom positioned behind the bed introduce a subtle sense of hotel-like comfort. The children's room adopts a softer, more playful character through custom-designed furniture and an environment that encourages independence and exploration.
Outside, organically shaped planting islands, winding pathways, a swimming pool and a small vegetable garden extend everyday living beyond the walls of the house, gently blurring the boundary between interior and landscape.
Rather than relying on expressive forms or decorative gestures, The Nest House demonstrates how thoughtful planning, integrated functionality and a consistent material language can quietly enrich everyday family life.
