A strikingly minimal gallery-like space, in a listed building, referencing the tanneries of Dickensian London.
Dan Hazeldean
Once surrounded by the leather tanneries of Dickensian Whitechapel, this artisan dwelling was originally built as a lodge for a tanner and his family.
Designed in 1864 by pioneering architect Henry Roberts and now Grade 2 listed, the lodge gives a rare insight into architecture now scarce in east London.
Part derelict by the 1970’s and threatened with demolition, the building was saved, but most original features were removed and modernised. This gave us the freedom during our redesign, to strip out these additions, and reveal the underlying listed structure.

Paris Minimal
A city retreat inspired by Japanese simplicity and minimalism.
Old oak doors on a cobbled back street in Paris, lead up a winding wooden staircase to a dark dusty apartment, uninhabited for nine years.Studio Hazeldean transformed this into a calm oasis in the heart of the bustling city.

The design was based on Shibui - subtle understated beauty, and Kanso - simplicity.
We used a restrained palette of materials to unify the space and create flow through the apartment.

In the bedroom a partition creates a concealed walk-in wardrobe. The simple plywood bed plinth with integral side tables was custom made for the space.Blown glass pendants hover beside the bed for delicate contrast.

PEREDELKINO 85
This apartment is located in the Gorod – Peredelkino Blizhnee Park Apartment Complex. The owners – a young married couple with a child – went for minimalistic interior design. When deciding on the concept for the interior design, we had to bear in mind the low 2.7-meter ceiling. So, from the moment you enter the apartment you start seeing vertical lines that continue throughout the entire apartment and into bedrooms. It did not help the building is a precast reinforced concrete one; virtually every wall is a load-bearing one; we were able to remove only one partition between the corridor and bedsit.
