The Green Modular House represents a paradigm shift in contemporary architecture, moving away from static mass toward a living assembly of "basic cells." Driven by a progressive architectural mindset, the project views the building process as an evolution of form rather than a fixed outcome. Inspired by the simplicity of fundamental geometric shapes, the design transforms the complexities of construction into a large-scale modular system. As part of a pilot project for the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, 1100 designed a restroom station for Luis Lopez Park in Staten Island using modular construction. The initiative marked the first time NYC Parks pursued a project of this kind, and our commission extended beyond the pilot to include creating a replicable delivery system for future modular facilities. With New York offering only 12 public restrooms per 100,000 residents—far fewer than other major American cities—new solutions are urgently needed to address the city’s limited and deteriorating stock. This project is the new headquarters for Australia’s largest youth circus organisation. The project reflects the more pragmatic and industrial aesthetic of contemporary Australian circus, which rejects the artifice and costuming of traditional circus. It is a low-cost project that can be easily disassembled and relocated, throughout its life, like a modular circus tent.
