Conceived as a sustainable, steel-structured residence, the chalet pairs a monumental, 5.5-meter-high natural pine volume with an intersecting first-floor "tunnel" clad in sleek, black Trespa® panels. Extending outward, this dark geometric element creates dramatic cantilevers at both facades, projecting the interior into the landscape while providing sheltered outdoor spaces below. Merging modular efficiency with a biophilic design language, the project stands as a testament to contemporary, high-end modular living.
Concept & Architecture
The architectural composition plays with the tension between warmth and cold, light and shadow. The design is defined by two primary intersecting volumes:
• The Main Envelope: A monolithic, high-ceiling timber volume that seamlessly blends the chalet with its organic surroundings while ensuring high thermal performance.
• The Tunnel: Piercing clean through the wooden shell, this dark architectural volume forms the first floor. Clad in weather-resistant black Trespa® panels, it creates a striking geometric juxtaposition against the natural pine.
The Cantilevered Experience
The black tunnel extends outward, creating bold cantilevers at the front and rear facades. This structural gesture yields a dual effect: it gives inhabitants the sensation of floating amidst the winter scenery while simultaneously creating sheltered, transitional outdoor spaces beneath the overhangs.
