Porta San Biagio Apartment
Urban Role
The intervention is places inside a courtyard building dating back to the late nineteenth/early twentieth century along the built border demarcating the urban center of the city of Monza.
Historically, the area was occupied by the city walls and one of the access gates to the city: Porta San Biagio.Following its demolition in 1845, the walls and moat left room for residential blocks that, following its path, inhabit its thickness.
Therefore, at an urban level, the building that hosts the intervention takes on the role once played by the Gate: mediation between an internal and an external dimension and, above all, physical identification of the passage between the two.

In order to offer a privileged view of the surrounding city, the renovation of this apartment in the historic center of Monza started with the inversion of the existing living and sleeping areas.

Instead of opting for a rigid division of the interiors, the project is configured as a series of spaces seamlessly connected, eliminating separations and doors as much as possible.

The prominent element of the living room is the bespoke corner kitchen, which hides the access to the rear anteroom and defines the dining space as a scenic backdrop.

Minotti70
Migliore+Servetto Architects celebrated the 70th anniversary of Minotti with an installation-event that develops a multimodal narration around the heritage of the historical brand. The chosen location is the Villa Reale di Monza, which hosted the first Biennale of decorative arts in 1923 and 43 editions of the International Furnishing Exhibition. The set-up designed by Migliore+Servetto Architects for the exhibit “Bellissima.
L’Italia dell’alta moda 1945-1968”, at Villa Reale in Monza, is characterized by a
lightly sign and by a rich dialogue with the historic environment.
A delicate intervention intended to highlight the dual beauty: of the clothing and the
textile materials on display, and the wonderful location, by opting for the identification
of different areas through soft and singular narrative elements.
Among these, there is a dynamic system of different layers that, raising from the
ground such as graceful flying carpets and made up of light and colorful
