Quay West Hotel Lobby

Articolo's Double Ball Pendant and Double Ball Wall Sconce feature in the Quay West Hotel & Residential Tower refurbishment in Southbank. Nestled in the heart of Melbourne's arts precinct, the Quay West building refurbishment designed by CoLAB Studio draws cues from the iconic interiors of the neighbouring  Arts Centre and Hamer Hall. Annandale House

'Baldwin & Bagnall explore light and scale in the contemporary refresh of a renovated terrace in Sydney’s inner-western suburb of Annandale. Heath Baldwin & Hayden Bagnall are the names behind Baldwin & Bagnall, a Sydney-based multi-disciplinary design practice specialising in bespoke interiors. They were the ideal candidates for taking on the Annandale House; last renovated in the 1980s, lacking in access to natural light and an adequate floorplan. Approached by the client with a clear vision for a modern and comfortable interior, Baldwin & Bagnall needed to demolish the majority of the home and start from scratch. A tedious reshuffle to the home’s layout gave Baldwin & Bagnall the opportunity... More

Adela Apartments

The project came about with the development of a large residential block close to the Elwood foreshore and Port Philip Bay. The brief simply requested a spacious apartment product that was cutting edge and contemporary, but subtle both inside and out. The concept of a large apartment resulted in six single level dwellings, each with the proportions of a small house. The apartments are low maintenance, functionally adaptable to appeal to a range of potential residents, and highly sustainable. Externally, rather than go for a standard “stacked wedding cake” form, the building was set back significantly from the adjoining properties on the lower levels. This allowed the main volume of the building to have vertical sides and reduce... More

Portsea House

'A previously dated but solidly built 90’s style house with ‘good bones’ has been renovated with minimal structural changes but with a comprehensive interior design program. Our clients purchased a large, solidly built and well-located beach house. However, the kitchen was impractical, the large bar unnecessary and the finishes were colourful – the house had the sensibility of a 90’s office interior rather than a home near the beach. Our repeat clients trusted we would give the house a more relaxed and warm feel as well as creating practical spaces for a family that likes to cook and entertain.  As the house was quite large we had sufficient space to enlarge the kitchen and include the client’s sele... Fini Wall Sconce

Inspired by refractions of light dancing on the horizon, Fini is a handcrafted solid glass rod encased in linear brass form. Characterised by an uneven surface, Fini refracts light to create a dynamic luminescence that appears animated. The satin frost glass is reminiscent of days when the clouds are low and any delineation between sky and horizon is blurred, while the clear glass finish evoking warm summer days and a mirage of light glistening on the horizon.     More

Slab is a lighting design 12 months in the making. Exploring the artisanal quality of mouth-blown glass to dramatic effect, each sculptural piece is distinguished by its unpredictable, elongated organic form. Available as both Pendant and Wall Sconce, the striking light has been imagined in clear glass with the addition of striking jewel tones, or in Articolo’s signature ‘effervescent’ mouth-blown finish known as Fizi. Hopetoun Road Residence

The approach for the renovation and extension of the Hopetoun Road Residence is to retain the existing structure as an anchoring element, adding a series of pavilions underneath a floating copper roofline that wraps around the original building. Embracing the client’s desire to maintain a fairly conventional residential structure, the design strengthens the form by creating a gable façade at the front and back with a clearly defined outline. Clad in polished grey render, the gables emphasize solidity and give the house a re-established sense of history and permanence. In contrast the extensions, composed as ribbons of copper wrapping around the solid structure, sit softly above recessed glazing. As a counterpoint to the verticality of... More
