Idyllically located in a Sunshine Coast hamlet wedged between nature reserves, Currimundi Lake and the surf beach, Veil + Co. House is a multigenerational co-living coastal residence. With an atypical entry and a deeply setback main dwelling, the project reinterprets traditional Queensland housing for contemporary living, showcasing flexible accommodation and high levels of privacy. Governor’s Island House occupies two connected properties that span a peninsula on Lake Winnipesauke. At the foothills of the White Mountains, the island is home to a tight-knit community, with multiple generations living side by side. In 2020 The Ranch Mine received a very unusual project inquiry, a first in their firm’s history. The scope of the inquiry was not unusual, a new modern home to replace the ranch house in the Arcadia neighborhood in Phoenix, Arizona they had outgrown while having 3 children over the past 8 years. Dan Ryan Studio The unusual part was the request for it to be a surprise for the homeowner’s wife, after the couple had started and stopped twice with other professionals. Point Grey Laneway is a re-imagination of a traditional colonial style laneway. Respectful of the Japanese Canadians that have lived in Vancouver for generations, allowing them to age in place. The project was exectued as a colloboration between Vancouver design firm Campos Studio and Blue Design. The intent is to provide affordable rental housing through soft density. The form replicates the city's predominant craftsman revival form while maintaining the goal to make this minimal space a truly liveable environment with only 640 square feet. The building is intentionally asymmetric and clad in hand stained split face hand painted shakes and metal.  More
