A K Khan Residence

It was an honor to have designed this residence along with Bedmar & Shi of Singapore. Bedmar & Shi was the lead firm over here and we assisted them as the local architects in the architectural design but we played a more significant role in the interior and the engineering and AVP design of the building. The residence is a wonderful structure that cantilevers out into different directions to make full use of the great view of the site at Batali Hill. It is situates at one of the highest point of Chittagong and has gorgeous views of the bay. The Terraces and the cantilever bedrooms make full use of the panoramic view of this particular location. The entry of the building is into a wonderful interior court around which the different f... More

Bangladesh Railway office building

Bangladesh Railway is an extremely important organization with a proud heritage. Therefore the head-office building of Railway needed to be such a building that will be an iconic building in the city. The way the building has been conceived is that of a multi-faceted sculpture that shifts away from the harsh sun light of the west and faces towards the south-east. This faceting not only improves the quality of light and reduces heat gain inside the building but it also creates an abstract sculptural quality of which will make the building extremely unique in the skyline of the CDB of Dhaka city. The building-abstractness will give it a timeless character which we feel is befitting for an organization like Bangladesh railway. More

Sanchita Residence

“Shanchita” means a “collection of memories”, in a way to treasure. The lifestyle of Dhaka has considerably changed over the last 35 years. Beautiful one unit houses with gardens have been replaced by uncaring high-rise apartments. Today’s apartments serve only to provide us with a residence and do little to become a home. The houses of the yesteryears held a rich collection of memories because families lived together, their gardens were treasured by the children to the elderly. There trees, verandas, terraces were not just elements but integral part of the life of the occupants.   The clients aspired for a 'Baganbari' - house in a garden, where their own children could grow up with ample places to play... Bangla Academy Complex

Bangla Academy Complex (National competition, 1st prize winner, IAB)   In today's day and age, when there seems to be an inclination to use technology and complex design strategies to achieve a "green" solution in building design. One must not forget that one of the most sensible ways to create an "environment friendly" architecture is to use the "environment" itself. The site, the surrounding and the climate should become primary forces and a successful "green" architecture can be achieved through "passive" means.   The Bangla Academy project approaches sustainability in many levels and does not just claim to be "environment friendly". In the first measure of sustainability the project addresses is that of "site". The project... More

Tanvir Residence

An Experiment in "Symbiotic Architecture" , the building is constructed with hand poured as cast concrete in wooden shuttering, retaining the impressions of the wood planks.  Where does a new aesthetics start from? From the aesthetics of a time? Technology? Material? Use? Or can it be from simple realities as climatic conditions? This residence faces a park and needed to have maximum exposure towards it both because of view and prevailing breeze but at the same time needed shading that would protect the opening from rain and reduce direct solar heat gain. We designed the shading device as a symbiotic growth that grew over the building giving the structure an aesthetics of a symbiotic relationship of concrete and metal. The ho... More
