City Tech Pearl Building

Adaptive reuse projects bring their share of complications, yet as aging systems are stripped away, long-quiet details often emerge with unexpected resonance. As Shakespeare Gordon Studio (SGS) began the design process for a gut renovation at New York City College of Technology (NYCCT), such discoveries began to reveal themselves. NYCCT, commonly referred to as City Tech, is in heart of what has become known as the “Brooklyn Tech Triangle,” an initiative spearheaded by various local economic development organizations that includes over 500 tech companies and 11 universities in and around downtown Brooklyn, all together comprising the largest innovation cluster outside of Manhattan. At the heart of the campus is the New Academic... More

Wheels for mutual studio

Euljiro, a place where different wheels interlock and rotate to function, where completely different generations meet and coexist, where different stories are connected and layered, creating a chemical reaction at the heart of it all. As I looked through the exhibition catalog of Mutual in Euljiro, which is the first footsteps of them, I was reminded of the wheels of the machines that have silently turned for a long time in the printing alley. Sehee Park Sehee Park Sehee Park Sehee Park  A machine that can be used by rolling wheels in an office space, a machine that can be adjusted to fit each individual‘s needs in their own space, a machine that fills or empties a space with the flip of a switch. Werk 3, CSMM

For CSMM, the “Hub & Home” model is the future of workplace design. So, they took the opportunity to make their own office into a three-dimensional calling card and set out to produce an architectural rendering of the creative process itself. They transformed the loft space in Werk 3 into the model for a new way of working using a variety of different spatial scenarios that allow each individual to work in his or her own way.  Eva Jünger In 2016, as the firm’s headcount continued to grow, CSMM moved into a new office space in Werk 3 in Munich’s Werksviertel district. The 700-square-metre loft in a former factory building proved to be the perfect blank canvas to put their own design ideas into prac... More

Connext Headquarter

The design of the office building was developed from the Connext logo. The airspace with its bridges connects four square structures of different sizes in a cross shape. In the individual structures, the workplaces are separated by glass partitions with sliding glass doors. This floods the combination zone in the middle of the square surfaces with light. The flexibility of the building is evident not only in the different floor areas, but also in the design with cavity floors and easily movable partitions: The floor plans of the offices can be adapted as required. To the outside, the four building structures with their stone façades appear rather massive. The mullion-and-transom façade between the cubes is set back and allows li... More

Thanks to technology and international exposure, most companies today are highly globalised. A senior executive in the US may spend much of his day collaborating with his peer in the company’s office in China. Both executives speak the same language, use the same technology and operate on similar company values.   However, local cultural context still plays an important role in the way companies function. After the meeting, the executive in the US may go back to the open workspace, sit right next to a junior employee and take decisions consensually with his team. The executive in China, on the other hand, may still value his hierarchical standing, and prefer to work from his corner office. A forward-thinking company finds a way... More
