The Enchanted Wood
There was so much whispering, that it felt like a thousand leaves rustling at once…A landscape design project in Chikhli, Gujarat, recently undertaken by Studio DesignSeed, exemplifies how thoughtful design choices can transform a 40,000 sqft plot with existing dense orchard area into a sanctuary that complements the natural environment and engages the senses. Designing landscapes is an artful blend of natural beauty and intentional human intervention, shaping spaces that tell a story, evoke emotions, and serve functional needs. Landscape design encompasses much more than mere planting; it involves orchestrating textures, colors, heights, and spatial forms to create an immersive experience.

Ramon Fontestad Park in Rocafort
The Ramón Fontestad Park is located, like a large balcony overlooking the huerta (Valencian historical orchard), on the eastern edge of Rocafort, bordering the Real Acequia de Moncada. This large green space acts as a mediator between the city and the orchard, dignifying this urban edge that until recently remained abandoned.

The design of the park refers to Rocafort's stonemasonry past, evoking, through the introduction of subtle topographic games, the quarries of Rocafort and Godella with which a large part of the historical Valencian buildings were constructed. John's House Pavilion
At just 50 square metres, this bite-sized holiday accommodation is one of our smallest projects to date.
Situated on a orchard in the picturesque country side of the Hawkes bay this small pavilion responds to the design of the neighboring house, by John Scott. The large deck and monopitch roof create a conversation with Scott’s design, whilst the accents of yellow add a bright new dimension. A simple construction orientated to be open to the sun, and surrounding natural environment. It is primarily visitor accommodation, so wheelchair access has been seamlessly incorporated into the design.

Orchard Central
At 11 storeys, Orchard Central is Singapore’s first high-rise shopping centre. Unlike the other projects featured in this chapter, Orchard Central is a new build. As such, it incorporates many of the characteristics developed in past Orchard Road projects while pushing their concepts to new extents. In the ongoing evolution of tropical mall architecture, Orchard Central’s new modes of site integration make great strides in the extroversion of retail space.
