Wiener Rathauskeller
BWM revitalised the Rathauskeller in Vienna’s historic City Hall, including its largely heritage-protected event spaces and the 110m-long corridor, restoring and emphasising the building’s original fabric.
The Vienna City Hall is one of the most impressive buildings on Vienna’s renowned Ringstrasse. With its Neo-Gothic design, which was bold and original for its time, and its imposing tower, it rivalled the city’s major church buildings and became a symbol of the growing metropolis and the rising bourgeoisie – a kind of secular cathedral of the people. The particular elliptical shape and textured surface resembling hammering, are the result of a meticulous study on the microscopic magnification of a seed. The careful and accurate preparation of the model permit to appreciate the play of light and shadows on the white sculpted body. The decoration with gold 23k is applied by expert hands and fixed via additional firing process. The shiny gold creates an intricate web of radiant venations crossed by elusive and liquid light. More

MUNICIPAL ARCHIVES DE BAZEL
The conversion and renovation of the former bank in the Vijzelstraat in Amsterdam to house the municipal archives was already a prestigious assignment and expectations were high. That allure is connected both with the genesis and symbolic value of the building and with the new public function which is at odds with the closed typology of a bank building.
The new design treats the original design by K.P.C. De Bazel with respect. Firstly, many original qualities of the building, which had been lost in the course of its use, were restored to their former glory.
