Hayes Pavilion

This stunning pavilion was the perfect solution to a previously disjointed outdoor living space. The owners had two existing large outdoor patios and an outdoor kitchen, which were exposed to the elements and felt disconnected. The goal was to have a covered space, connecting the two patio areas, while providing respite from the sun, which would make the spaces much more comfortable and usable. Now, the pavilion provides large seating areas for dining, relaxing, and entertaining.  The pavilion is charming enough to have a private dining experience and large enough to entertain 20 for a party. HILLSBOROUGH | CAROLANDS

Taking cues from the neighboring classical Carolands Chateau, this home for six maximizes a flat site by lifting the quiet programs off the ground to float above the activity.  Service spaces are captured amongst a masonry plinth, nodding to the neighboring Chateau’s organization and rusticated base.   ADAM ROUSE ADAM ROUSE ADAM ROUSE ADAM ROUSE ADAM ROUSE These masses organize the primary public spaces into a double high core that connects seamlessly to the exterior.  When doors retract, the wood clad volume above becomes a canopy for indoor/outdoor living.   ADAM ROUSE ADAM ROUSE ADAM ROUSE ADAM ROUSE ADAM ROUSE ADAM ROUSE The language of the wood cladding... Treetops

Brett Charles Photography The design responds to the extraordinary topography of the site, with the rear forming a series of tiered terraces, louvers and balconies that project into the treetops. Hunt Outdoor Kitchen

This homestead is created for an individual, who wants to escape from the city, to find his inner self. Here it is possible to take a moment to connect and listen to the nature, change your personal needs. In the large area surrounded by forest and lakes, the buildings are spread across the existing terrain without harming it. Main house, outdoor kitchen, grandparents house, outbuilding and sauna are connected with curved paths, which form a local network for living. This formation of buildings gives the opportunity to live outdoors as much as indoors. The building process was slow, thinking about each detail, without any hurry and with respect to surrounding nature. Natural larch facades and roof shingles began to change the shade during... More

Rabbit House

Longtime neighborhood resident, Marian Heckendorn Brackett, happily recalls harvesting the wild alfalfa from the empty corner lot to feed her pet rabbits when she was a child. This lot would eventually be developed for a home that has been nicknamed, the ‘Rabbit House’.   Located on Packard Hill in Denver’s Potter Highlands Historic District, this 4,442 SFresidence is a thoughtful and innovative expression of contemporary style while respecting the scale, materiality, and history of the existing home. Originally designed and built in 1938 by Welsh architect R.O. Parry, the Rabbit House was a single-story red brick Tudor Revival residence. The current owners moved in over 15 years ago. Having fallen in love with the... More

Theodore Wirth Ranch

Envisioned as a modern ranch, the Theodore Wirth home rests comfortably on its hillside location. Immediately adjacent to the property, a densely wooded park creates a retreat-like feel during the summer months, while revealing the Minneapolis downtown skyline and its close proximity to the city throughout the winter season.   Working with the clients, this residence was designed in a way that can easily accommodate gatherings and be used as a place to entertain. Central to the property, a 10-meter swimming pool reflects views of the surrounding structures. In addition to the sauna, the pool house along the western edge provides a sheltered deck area and outdoor kitchen. Reflecting off the expansive south facing windows of the home,... More

Home^Dome

Since the middle of the 19th century, the great European cities raised the need to transform their pre-industrial fabric. The case of Madrid, somewhat later, expands the city as a consequence of the population increase due to the agricultural crisis, which justified the expansion of the city by the bourgeoisie. The soil began to be understood as an element of wealth and commerce, houses were built using a marked and eclectic classic language as a desire for self-representation, and this language included, thanks to very permissive regulations, the construction of all kinds of viewpoints, cantilevers, Set back penthouses, towers and non-habitable domes, simply decorative. These spaces, used very often as storage rooms, are today the most app... More

The Farmhouse

A late 70’s mykonian house located in the middle of the island, with no view to the sea, was transformed into one of the spectacular villas of Mykonos. Being in one of the most agricultural parts of Mykonos, Maou, the concept was easy to decide: create a Farmhouse, where the outdoor areas become the most important part of the design, with a lot of personality to "make the difference". The result is a successful mix & match of different styles - mykonian, 70’s, farmhouse, bohemian & industrial – in complete harmony with the surroundings. The Farmhouse is composed by 3 levels. In the eastern side are located the 3 guest apartments, separated from the rest of the house for privacy; they all have their own outdoor livi... More

Silver Hill Residence

The renovation of this 1980’s residence transformed the disjointed original house into an open and inviting space with a strong connection to the outdoors. The interior is characterized by clean lines and natural materials including raw steel, shou sugi ban, and walnut that bring warmth and texture to the space. The large kitchen and central island form the nucleus of the home: a place where the newly blended family of six can gather as one. The exterior of the house was simplified in form and material. New landscaping, outdoor kitchen, porch, and fire pit allow family life to spill into the beautiful back yard. Hand cut limestone pavers mediate both the steep elevational changes from the interior to pool level, and the transition fro... More

Hope Street

THE BLACK & WHITE HOUSE: COTTAGE TO CONTEMPORARY   The reverse of the ‘hidden extension’ is the black & white house in the satellite city of Geelong in Victoria.   Here, a modest Victorian weatherboard was fully restored and painted in a monotone White colour. In brash contrast, the new portions of the build, a quite large, powerfully square and highly visible extension, were painted– Matt Black.   The simple idea of this interplay of contrasts was to visually thrust the original cottage forward into the foreground and reseed the new, so the little cottage rightfully remained the hero on the street.   The odd shape of the wide block allowed us to set the extension to the side. And while... More

The Delancey By Lanserring

At LANSERRING, our design process and journey always begins as a response to our clients’ individual lifestyles, needs and desires. We wanted to create an authentic design that allows life to flourish, uninterrupted; a space that embraces the day-to-day and spontaneous moments cherished by families. At the heart of The Delancey design is the 10-metre run of solid marble worktop, flowing from the pantry, to the main kitchen, to the outdoor terrace. The run is punctuated only by steel-framed screening, providing a continuous living space that creates and maintains connection between each member of the home. The central island in The Delancey embodies this vision. Appearing first as a hollowed-out block of solid marble, lined with almond... More

Foxhill House

PAD studio was approached to design a new, extremely low energy, ‘Lifetime Homes’ compliant dwelling which would create a full time residence for their clients and also enable them to work from home. The site, located deep in the New Forest, was required to meet stringent Conservation Area and National Park planning policy. The design had to be ecologically responsible for the lifetime of the scheme, also with a low impact to the site, surrounding countryside.    A key design concept was to create a fluid relationship between the interior and the exterior. Full height windows and south facing terrace enables the landscaping to flow into the house forming an outdoor room, complimented by a covered outdoor kitchen. The... More
