The Villette project is about the adaptation of the space to the life change of its owners, like the arrival of a baby.Rather than moving for a bigger apartment the clients wanted to question the potential of their existing apartment.

Curving Grand Palais Éphémère strives for urban and aesthetic integration with famous Parisian landmarks
Constructed on the Champ-de-Mars in Paris, in front of the Ecole Militaire and on the axis of the Eiffel Tower, the Grand Palais Éphémère is a temporary 10,000 square meter building designed by Wilmotte & Associés. During the period the Grand Palais is closed for restoration works, this building will house art, fashion and sporting events, including the FIAC, Saut Hermès and Chanel fashion shows. During the 2024 Paris Olympics, this ephemeral construction will host up to 9,000 spectators to the judo and wrestling competitions.

Clients asked us to make a central island unit in their kitchen. Although the space is narrow and long, they wanted this way of cooking.

We took this constraint of the narrowness and pushed it to its limit. The result is a very long black rectangle of 3.60m long made of granite. There is just enough space on both sides to cook and walk.

SituationProject Beaumarchais takes place in a little alley, calm and vegetal, sheltered from the noisy neighborhood.
The former commercial unit has to be transformed into a loft. The existing space is defined by its structure, metallic ceiling and beams, cinder blocks on the walls, by its 3.85m under the ceiling and by its depth, with only one facade towards the exterior to bring light in.

The real estate market in big cities like Paris is more and more tense. Rents shoot up whereas surface areas decrease. In this context, people are more and more obliged to live in small spaces. Especially for students or low incomes, studios from 10 to 15m² are becoming the norm. For architects, this new Type of living is challenging because it forces us to maximize the feeling of space and the quality of living.

It’s almost the same space, with some little differences, that create a different plan, with the same concept. The existing appartment had a special layout due to the staircase volume located right in the center of the plan, dividing the apartment in two main areas.
The projet of anthropie studio aimed to restore the concept of crossed apartment, typical of the residential hausmaniann architecture.
3 main parameters lead the architect to design the projet : the core (the volume of the staircase), the unique facade and orientation, and the very rectangular geometry of the plan.
