London-based multidisciplinary architecture and design practice Studio Egret West has developed plans for thirty-eight Passivhaus homes in Swindon, England. The sustainable development is centered around the concept of “allotment living”. Figurr Architects Collective completes affordable and sustainable apartment building in Ottawa
Canadian architectural firm Figurr Architects Collective has completed 159 Forward Avenue, an affordable housing apartment building in Ottawa, Canada. A project for Centretown Citizens Ottawa Corporation, a non-profit housing organization, 159 Forward Avenue is designed to Passive House (also known as Passivhaus) performance standards of energy efficiency.

Planning for this project was won under Paragraph 79, the Country House Clause, with a design taking inspiration from the surroundings.
The overall design is simple and clean. An elegant brick front complements the brickwork of the of garden wall and a discrete front door opening references the gate in the garden wall.
Further down, an oriel window breaks through, hinting at what is behind. Elsewhere, external surfaces are dark render, designed to recede visually in deference to the surrounding garden.
