To gaze upon the vast Atlantic and the silhouette of Brazil’s southeastern coastline: this was the architectural challenge faced by Afetto Lab when taking on the renovation of a 249 m² (2,680 sq. ft.) penthouse in Bertioga, on the coast of São Paulo. Intervening within the historic fabric of Padua requires a sophisticated mediation between the layers of memory and the desire for contemporary domesticity. This renovation project, developed over a surface area of 75 sqm, undertakes a distributive overhaul to maximize spatial usability, responding to the desires of an eclectic clientele—whose taste ranges from Pop vibrancy to refined retro suggestions. In the center of Treviso, the interior design of the Sectilis penthouse is configured as an exercise in spatial rewriting that works on the balance between the geometric rigor of fixed elements and the superficial treatment of finishes. The intervention, developed over an internal surface of 122 sqm, addresses two distinct compositional themes: the management of long wall curtains in the living area and the geometric resolution of a sleeping area with an irregular floor plan. The interior design of this penthouse is defined through an investigation into the continuity of living, where matter is not intended as a simple covering, but as an architectural device capable of enhancing and ordering the space. The intervention explores the theme of the open plan, replacing traditional wall partitions with a system of functional backdrops. This is a renovation project for a two-story apartment located in Erenköy. The distinctive feature of the apartment is its high-ceilinged living room with a glass roof, which posed the initial design challenge for the project. The primary focus was on achieving a balance between materials and lighting within the space. Natural, matte, and pastel materials were chosen to counterbalance the infinite and uncontrolled light effect created by the glass roof. Earthy paint on the walls, concrete fibercement on the floor, and oak wood tones shaped the color palette. An interior in dark shades is a boldness that not every homeowner and far from every designer dares to do. All because of numerous stereotypes: supposedly black visually "eats" the room and looks too gloomy and depressing. This is true - but only if the interior is decorated illiterately and chaotically. Using the example of a new project, the SENCE ARCHITECTS architectural studio proves that dark shades can look expensive and luxurious without changing the atmosphere of home comfort with a more traditional and "safe" palette.
