College of Europe by Oppenheim Architecture draws inspiration from the architectural and historic contexts of Tirana, Albania
The College of Europe campus by Oppenheim Architecture (OA) has just been completed in Tirana, Albania. The project, which is the first purpose-built campus for the College of Europe, is inspired by the city's existing architectural vernacular and historic contexts, such as the 1991 student protests that played a pivotal role in Albania's journey towards democracy.

Dusty pink pigmented concrete defines the characterful terraced landscape of Pigment House
In London’s leafy Hampstead village, architectural studio Unknown Works has transformed a dark and confined Victorian townhouse into a free-flowing indoor–outdoor living space. The newly designed stepped and terraced concrete landscape of Pigment House, with its dusty pink pigmented surfaces, is a standout feature.

Located in an urban farmland area of Gujarat, India, Shed 2.0 by Studio ii accommodates studios, workshops, and other ancillary facilities for a designer mother/daughter duo.

Conceived as an extension of landscape, the project presents a contemporary programme within a largely traditional spatial vocabulary of forecourt, verandas, courtyards, and mezzanine spaces that draw from traditional Guajarati architecture. Peripheral extensions into the landscape provide an additional social and programmatic richness.

Estudio MMX interweaves open spaces throughout porous pigmented concrete villa
A sequence of open spaces with a gradual degree of intimacy allow residents to move gently from the public street-facing spaces to the private backyard.

Estudio MMX translated the client's wishes for a garden, terraces and a central patio into a playful dialogue between built and open spaces.

The architects implemented a 3x3x3 grid and distributed ten volumes organized around a central patio. Two units are interwoven that can be used separately. The compact porous massing creates ideal sunlight conditions without compromising privacy.

Unknown Architects design a unique home nestled into the dune landscape of the Wadden Islands (NL)
Nestled into the unique dune landscape of Terschelling, one of the Wadden Islands in the Netherlands, this house by Unknown Architects is both modest and expressive. Drawing inspiration from the surrounding holiday homes, the house appears from a distance as a single-storey building with an asymmetrical roof. Closer up, a lower ground floor becomes visible.

Contemporary Casa Roble draws from timeless Mexican building traditions
Querétaro, Qro., Mexico: Casa Roble by Pothe Estudio is inspired by the spatial and material qualities of traditional Mexican homes and the return of the patio as a central space for recreational and social activities.

At first glance, the house seems simple with several closed volumes finished with clay. An entry lattice gate achieves provides privacy while filling the home with light. Behind this, the central patio of the house is revealed. With a working area of only 10 x 19 m (32.0 x 62.33 ft) the patio is open and spacious in feeling and able to be expanded to accommodate parties and plenty of movement.

Located in London, the house experiments with concrete not just structurally but also as an architectural finish. The concept draws inspiration from surrounding Victorian architecture, which is characterized by decorated and patterned load-bearing brick.

Overcast House informed by a client’s passionate knowledge and interest in colour and light
Overcast House by Office S&M Architects is a single-storey rear extension to a Victorian house in north London. The project name speaks to the central design concept of bringing indirect light into the interior space as well as the extension’s ‘shadow catcher’ external skin, which is made up of pigmented cast concrete blocks that model shadows on the rear façade even in the absence of direct sun.
